The Role
Are you passionate about learning how Finance and Accounting keep an organization running?
Join us as a Finance and Accounting Intern, where you’ll support the Finance team in executing day-to-day financial operations, ensuring transactions are processed accurately, documentations are complete, and records are properly maintained in line with Last Mile Health policies and donor requirements.

This Intern role offers hands-on exposure to nonprofit financial management, including petty cash administration, advance tracking and liquidation, vendor payment processing, reconciliations, audit support, and records management. The intern will work with the Finance team to strengthen internal controls and support smooth program implementation.

This role is based in Liberia and open to national and international candidates located in Liberia.

What you’ll do
  • Assist in reviewing and processing financial transactions, including petty cash requests, vendor payment requests, travel Scope of Work (SOW), and activity budget documentation.
  • Verify completeness and accuracy of supporting documentation prior to processing.
  • Ensure transactions comply with organizational policies, procedures, and approval matrices.
  • Support the review of advanced liquidation reports to confirm all required supporting documents are attached and compliant.
  • Follow up with staff to resolve discrepancies or missing documentation in a timely manner.
  • Maintain trackers for advances and liquidations as assigned.
  • Assist in preparing weekly and monthly petty cash counts and bank reconciliation schedules.
  • Support investigation of reconciling items and ensure timely resolution.
  • Organize, file, and maintain physical and electronic financial records in accordance with document retention and filing protocols.
  • Ensure documents are properly indexed to allow easy retrieval during audits and reviews.
  • Maintain confidentiality and secure storage of financial information.
  • Provide administrative and documentation support during internal and external audits.
  • Assist with compiling requested schedules and supporting documents.
  • Provide support on ad-hoc finance tasks, including data entry, report preparation, and process improvements as assigned by the Finance team.

What you'll bring
  • Recently completed a degree in Business Administration, or a related field

  • Ability to work in to Microsoft word and Excel

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
