Duties and Responsibilities
The internship is based in Programme Office in Uganda (POUGA), Kampala, Uganda. This full-time, unpaid positions will run for six months and will support the Strengthening Crime Prevention Criminal Justice Programme and the project on Promoting Accountability, Integrity and Transparency in Justice. Interns are expected to work five days a week (40 hours) under the supervision of a designated staff member within the department. UNODC supports the Government of Uganda in strengthening crime prevention and criminal justice institutions, promoting the rule of law, and addressing emerging threats including organized crime and violent extremism. The Administrative Intern will support the UNODC Programme Office in Uganda in providing administrative and operational assistance to ensure the effective implementation of programme activities. Key Responsibilities Under the overall supervision of the Head of Office, and in close technical collaboration with UNODC programme staff, and consultants within the UNODC Regional Office, the intern will be responsible for the following tasks i) Substantive Support: • Assist in collecting information for various reports, speaking notes, background documents, etc. • Conduct in-depth research and analysis on issues related to crime prevention and criminal justice, transnational organized crime, countering corruption, etc. • Contribute to the preparation of background documents, presentations, talking points, and speeches for Programme activities. • Develop briefing materials and other relevant documentation for meetings and events involving stakeholders and partners, including other UN agencies. ii) Communications and Visibility: • Support the creation, review, and updating of social media content to enhance the visibility of the Programme's activities and outcomes. • Draft web stories and press releases iii) Programme Planning and Coordination: • Participate in the planning and execution of activities, including meetings, workshops, conferences, and training sessions. • Draft detailed reports, minutes, and summaries for UNODC country Office events, meetings. • Assist in administrative tasks, such as drafting letters, terms of reference and other relevant documentation. • Perform additional tasks as required
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Teams Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
