ABOUT FINANCIAL INNOVATION FOR IMPACT
Financial Innovation for Impact (Fii) is an international, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the advancement of scalable, sustainable, and evidence-based financial and regulatory innovation. We work with academic institutions, digital finance ecosystem partners, and other stakeholders to create knowledge and apply data-driven insights to inform the development of fintech and the decision-making of central banks, securities regulators, and other financial authorities.
Fii generates research, develops digital tools, and delivers capacity building at scale through technical assistance programmes to benefit financially excluded, marginalised, and disadvantaged populations.
THE ROLE
We are looking for a Digital Assets Regulation - Associate to support Fii’s programmatic activities related to the regulation of digital assets across Emerging Market and Developing Economies (EMDEs). The role will involve conducting in-depth research, producing policy-relevant outputs (e.g. reports, briefs, and comparative analyses), and delivering technical assistance to financial authorities in jurisdictions such as Ghana, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Occasional international travel may be required. The role holder will report to the Digital Asset Regulatory Specialist or Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct in-depth research and produce comparative analyses on digital asset policy, regulation, supervisory and authorisation frameworks across jurisdictions.
- Support the design of regulatory, supervisory and authorisation frameworks for digital assets, the policy development of tokenisation in financial services, and the development of Central Bank Digital Currencies. Draft high-quality outputs, including policy briefs, technical reports, and regulatory guidance materials.
- Deliver technical assistance to financial authorities through workshops, training sessions, and other engagements (virtual and in-person).
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including regulators, central banks, development partners, and industry participants.
- Monitor industry trends and regulatory developments in digital assets, with a focus on EMDEs.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
The individual in this role must also have excellent research and analytical skills and a demonstrable interest and expertise in the regulation of traditional and digital financial markets, ideally with a focus on digital assets.
Essential
The ideal candidate should have the following qualities, skills and attributes.
- Degree in law, public policy, finance, economics, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in financial and/or digital regulation.
- Demonstrated breadth of knowledge in financial services and digital assets, particularly regarding their regulatory and supervisory frameworks.
- Experience working in or engaging regulatory authorities, central banks, or other public authorities.
- Excellent analytical and research skills, with the ability to translate complex topics into clear, actionable insights.
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams and deliver high-quality outputs under tight deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience producing policy or research outputs.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
Desirable
- Prior experience working within a financial authority, regulatory body, or supervisory institution.
- Experience working in or with EMDEs, particularly Ghana, Indonesia, or the Philippines.
- Strong understanding of the political economy of financial regulation in emerging markets.
- Experience working across different areas of digital assets and financial regulation.
- Track record of publishing research or working in an academic or policy research environment.
- Existing network within regulatory, policymaking, or fintech ecosystems.
