NIB finances its lending by issuing bonds in international capital markets through its Treasury operations. NIB’s Treasury operations support the business and are a vital part of the Bank. We are seeking a new Head of Funding & Investor Relations.
About the role
The Treasury operations are carried out by three front‑office units: Funding & Investor Relations, Asset & Liability Management, and Portfolio Management. The heads of those units report to the Treasurer, the Head of Treasury.
As Head of Funding & Investor Relations, you will lead a high‑performing team within the Treasury & Finance department to secure the funding needed for NIB’s lending and treasury activities. The funding strategy is based on a diversified approach across product, currencies and investor base, and at the same time it aims at securing the lowest possible funding cost in the medium term. The Funding and Investor Relation Team consist of the Head, two Funding Managers and, currently, also an Associate Young Professional.
As Head of Funding & Investor Relations you will own NIB’s funding strategy and annual plan, strengthen our issuance frameworks and infrastructure (including the development of new instruments and processes), and be a visible market representative for NIB with investors, banks, and media. You will contribute to bank‑wide leadership as a member of the Treasury & Finance Leadership Team and relevant forums/committees, and drive strategic change to enhance efficiency, quality, and innovation in NIB’s funding activities.
Key responsibilities
- Set and deliver NIB’s funding strategy: The funding strategy is diversified across markets, products, currencies and tenors, frameworks and infrastructure for the Bank’s bond issuance, and is over time developed to e.g. include new funding instruments.
- Lead investor engagement: Coordinate, plan, prioritise and participate in investor meetings, roadshows and events. In addition, manage relationships with arranging investment banks and other market participants.
- Act as NIB’s market voice: Build visibility for NIB’s name and respond to media inquiries in coordination with Communications in the Corporate Affairs department.
- Execute liability management actions, including buybacks of outstanding bonds and providing input to managing the related derivatives.
- Support strategic change to improve the efficiency and quality of Funding & Investor Relations processes, systems and data; promote innovation and best practice.
- Lead and develop the team by setting the direction with a clear strategy and priorities, promoting collaboration, empowering and coaching employees and colleagues, by fostering a culture of joint ownership, feedback and continuous learning.
- Contribute to other areas in NIB and to the community of International Financial Institutions/Multinational Development Banks to share practices and align on market standards.
- Governance & committees: Be an active part of the Treasury & Finance Leadership Team, the Funds Transfer Pricing Forum, and participate in Executive Committee and Board/Control Committee meetings as needed.
The ideal candidate should have:
- A proven track record in Sovereign/Supranational/Agency or commercial bank funding, including benchmark issuance and private placements. This can be as an issuer or from an originator/syndicate point of view.
- Strong knowledge within Sustainable Finance, the developments and the regulations, and the ability to contribute internally to NIB and externally to the development of this market and make sure NIB is seen as a market leader.
- Strong macro-economic background, and an understand of how different markets are connected and how the flow of liquidity can affect different pricings.
- Strong fixed‑income product and derivatives know‑how relevant to funding and capital markets, hedging and liability management (buybacks/exchanges).
- Demonstrated leadership of front‑office teams, with a style that supports team collaboration, empowers, develops, and holds high standards. Experience in sponsoring and driving change initiatives and process excellence is also desired.
- Outstanding stakeholder management and communication skills with global institutional investors, investment banks and fixed income market audiences – and with confident external speaking capability and media handling.
- A data‑ and technology-driven, judgement‑led approach, able to interpret market conditions, make timely issuance decisions, and advise senior executives as well as members of the Funding & Investor Relations team.
- High professional proficiency in English; additional Nordic/Baltic languages are an asset.
- A relevant university degree (e.g., finance, economics) or equivalent experience.
