What is your Job Scope?

Job Overview/Summary:

The position is responsible for the implementation of WASH activities designed in IRC’s WASH program supporting humanitarian WASH needs of conflict affected IDPs in Myanmar. The Hygiene Promoter is responsible for leading hygiene promotion, the community mobilization and community engagement activities for the successful implementation of WASH project activities in the project areas. He/ she will manage a team of Community WASH Facilitators in project areas.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Under the guidance of the Sr Hygiene Promotion Officer, he/she will lead and supervise the implementation of all planned water, sanitation and hygiene activities at the village or camp level.

  • Participate in the WASH training and cascade the knowledge to Community WASH facilitators and targeted communities.

  • Carry out regular hygiene promotion sessions, and community mobilization for the implementation of WASH activities including WASH infrastructure constructions in the assigned township.

  • Ensure communication with communities for the implementation of WASH activities, participate in the preparation of community mobilization and behaviour change strategies.

  • Participate in the data collection and survey to look for unmet needs and identify any other needed WASH surveys contents.

  • Responsible for addressing any project-related issue quickly and raise any potential risks or issues to the Sr WASH Officer and Hygiene Promotion Officer.

  • Support the Sr WASH Officer and Hygiene Promotion Officer in providing basic training to all programme staff in community mobilisation, facilitation skills, governance concepts, participatory approaches.

  • He/ She will lead and supervise the Community Hygiene Club (CHC) activities under guidance of the Hygiene Promotion Officer.

  • Participate, lead, and organize formal meetings with camp committees, Community Hygiene Club members, relevant village leaders and community WASH facilitators.

  • Monitor the progress of field activities in the sites, collecting project data on time and according to standards.

  • Keep the Sr WASH Officer and Hygiene Promotion Officer informed on the progress and constraints of the project activities through the project coordination meetings and monthly progress reports.

  • Participate in the good information sharing with other IRC team members (MEAL/WASH/ Supply Chain, HR) at field level.

  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the Sr Hygiene Promotion Officer and Sr WASH Officer as appropriate.
