Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Secretary-General is responsible for the investment of the assets of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF). The Secretary-General has delegated this responsibility to the Representative of the Secretary-General for the investment of the assets of the UNJSPF (RSG). The RSG heads the Office of Investment Management (OIM), which manages approximately $100+ billion multi-asset class, global investment portfolio, about 80% of which is actively managed in-house. Asset classes under management comprise global equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, timber and commodities. This internship position is located in the Information Security Operations team within the Office of Investment Management of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund. The Team manages Fund-wide ICT security operations. The incumbent reports to the head of security operations. The incumbent can work full time (hybrid) at OIM’s office in New York and can be adjusted based on the request of the successful candidate. The intern will support the Information Security Operations (SecOps) function, focusing on security monitoring, incident management, vulnerability tracking, and ISO/IEC 27001-aligned control monitoring. The internship will contribute to strengthening cybersecurity operations through improved monitoring, reporting, documentation, and governance processes, with an emphasis on producing practical, time-bound deliverables. With appropriate guidance, the intern will: • Conduct research on best practices in security operations, including SIEM monitoring, incident response, IAM/PAM, vulnerability management, and security KPI/KRI benchmarking. • Assist in monitoring and analyzing security events, including supporting the investigation, documentation, classification, and SLA tracking of incidents. • Support the review of authentication logs and identification of risky sign-in activities. • Track vulnerability remediation progress and maintain related records and reports. • Contribute to ISO/IEC 27001 control monitoring, including documentation updates and evidence collection. • Assist in drafting and maintaining operational materials, including incident templates, escalation guides, SOC summaries, dashboards, and trend analysis reports. • Analyze security data to identify patterns, recurring risks, and areas for improvement. • Support preparation of materials and summaries for security meetings or workshops. • Contribute to internal security awareness communications.

Qualifications/special skills

The basic education required is HS Diploma. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants who have graduated as defined in (a) or (b) above, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
