Background

The UNDP Country Office (CO) in Angola, is implementing its Country Programme Document (CPD) 2024–2028 in support of the Government’s National Development Plan (PDN 2023–2027) and Agenda 2030. The programme adopts an integrated and collaborative approach to address complex, interrelated development challenges. Aligned with the UNDP Strategic Plan Signature objective of Prosperity for All, UNDP in Angola implements flagship programmes of (1) entrepreneurship and support to MSMEs, (ii), innovation and digitalization, (iii) financial literacy and inclusion, and (iv) local economic development.

The Sustainable Development and Institution Capacity (SDIC) Portfolio supports the Government in policy development and implementation oversight, capacity building, institutional strengthening and monitoring in programme activities. The Portfolio works to support the Country Office to act with both ambition and scale to address urgent problems facing the country and the achievement of UNDP strategic objectives to create a world where people have decent standards of living through promotion of sustainable economic growth and creation of decent jobs.

Under the overall guidance of the Sustainable Development and Institutional Capacities (SDIC) Program Analyst, the Program and Administrative Assistant Intern will have the opportunity to learn and contribute to programmatic, technical, and operational processes. The internship is designed to provide exposure to UNDP’s work environment, allowing the intern to develop skills in accuracy, consistency, and client-oriented service delivery, in line with UNDP rules and regulations.


The Program and Administrative Assistant Intern will support the Inclusive Growth and Environment Programme Unit, including coordination with various national and regional departments within UNDP.
The intern will work closely with programme and operations staff at the Country Office, as well as with UNDP regional teams, to facilitate information exchange and ensure effective and consistent service delivery.

UNDP internship programme offers graduate and undergraduate-level students the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UNDP's work with the objective of deepening their knowledge and understanding of UNDP’s goals, principles, and activities. It is designed to complement a variety of studies with practical professional experience in various areas. 
 

Duties and Responsibilities

Programme and Technical Support


•    Assist in preparing background notes, briefings, and presentations on climate change, green economy, and digital inclusion.
•    Gain exposure to the design and review of project concept notes, ToRs, and implementation plans.
•    Observe and support to the planning and follow-up of technical meetings, field missions, and stakeholder consultations, ensuring the minutes are timely done.
•    Conduct desk research to support the SDIC Unit 
•    Explore and review relevant policies, programs, and innovations in Angola and globally
•    Learn to assess digital inclusion and access, particularly in rural areas 
•    Explore agritech solutions and approaches to food security 
•    Study green entrepreneurship models and blended finance mechanisms for sustainable development
•    Practice compiling data and draft summaries to feed into knowledge products, advocacy materials, and donor reports.

Administrative Support 


•    Support the organization of meetings, workshops, and events, including scheduling, logistics, venue arrangements, travel coordination, and preparation of materials.
•    Gain experience with travel administration, including drafting Travel Requests (TRs), following up on Travel Expense Reports (TERs), and ensuring documentation complies with UNDP travel policy.
•    Maintain proper filing systems—digital and physical—for finance, procurement, HR, and administrative documents, ensuring alignment with information management and audit requirements.
•    Develop skills routine administrative support, including drafting and responding to correspondence, preparing memos, scanning/filing documents, and maintaining office records.
•    Observe and assist with office services, such as reception coverage of senior management offices when required.
•    Provide administrative support for meetings, training sessions, and events.
•    Contribute to logistical and administrative backups to Operations or Programme teams during peak workload periods.

Operational, Logistical and Finance Support

•    Learn to support accounting and financial support to ensure efficient operations and timely service delivery across projects and programs.
•    Gain exposure to UN/UNDP Financial Rules and Regulations, POPP, internal controls, and corporate policies in all financial processes and transactions.
•    Observe and assist effective financial oversight by reviewing and verifying supporting documents for payments, advances, settlements, and financial reporting for NIM/DIM projects.
•    Practice processing financial transactions in Quantum, ensuring vouchers, invoices, travel claims, entitlements, vendor and other payments are complete, accurate, matched, and compliant before posting.
•    Develop knowledge of internal control standards by ensuring proper documentation, correct chart of account coding, segregation of duties, and timely posting of transactions in Quantum.
•    Assist in follow up with UN agencies, government partners, vendors, and service providers on outstanding payments, documentation, financial clarifications, and inter-agency transactions.
•    Practice extracting, compiling and analysing financial data from Quantum, corporate dashboards, and other sources for audits, management meetings, programme reviews, and reporting.
•    Learn how to assist in procurement and recruitment processes in accordance with UNDP rules.
•    Support the tracking of project activities, deliverables, and timelines.
•    Perform other duties as required.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

•    Enrolled student of a degree programme or completed 4 years of full-time studies at a university in the field of Social Sciences, Climate Studies, Environmental Science, Development Studies, Digital Innovation, Economics, Public Policy, or a related field.

Experience:

•    No experience required.

•    Fluency in Portuguese and good working knowledge of English is required.
•    Well versed in Microsoft Office Apps.

Eligibility for internships in UNDP

•    Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
•    Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
•    Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP. 
  • Interns receive a monthly stipend paid in local currency.
