The African Union Development Agency invites applicants who are citizens of African Union Member States for the post of Senior Programme Officer, Water and Sanitation.
Under the supervision of the Project Coordinator – WASH Project, the Senior Programme Officer Water and Sanitation will provide technical leadership and strategic guidance for the Accelerating Access to Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programme. The incumbent will be responsible for policy reforms, systems strengthening, and service delivery performance improvements across participating countries, ensuring alignment with regional frameworks and international best practices.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Proficiency in the use of computer applications, MS Office, SAP ERP and STEP.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks and work under pressure with a wide range of individuals and institutions.
- Able to work under minimal supervision, be proactive, initiative and with sound judgment.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.

Education and Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Engineering, Water Resources Management, Public Health or Environmental Science and at least seven (7) years of progressive experience, three (3) of which should be in a supervisory role in the WASH sector within an international, regional or national organisation.
Or
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Water Resources Management, Public Health or Environmental Science, with ten (10) years of progressive work experience in the WASH sector within an international, regional or national organisation.
Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in regional WASH policy reform and governance strengthening programs in Africa.
- Proven experience managing and overseeing technical assistance programmes.
- Proven experience in benchmarking methodologies, sector performance monitoring, and institutional capacity development.
- Experience working with multilateral development partners (e.g., World Bank or similar institutions) is highly desirable.

Remuneration:
Indicative basic salary of US$42,018.78 per annum plus other entitlements e.g. Post Adjustment (57% of basic salary), Housing allowance ($21,832.68 per annum), gratuity (15% of gross salary) in conformity with the rules and procedures applicable to internationally recruited staff of the African Union.
