The post is presently located in Peshawar, Pakistan and this duty station has been designated by the International Civil Service Commission as an "E" hardship and a family duty station.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Associate Security Information Analyst (Saving Lives Together - SLT) is responsible for the following duties : Supports security threat analysis, information management, and Saving Lives Together (SLT) coordination functions for the UNDSS Pakistan office. 1. Identify, monitor and assess emerging threat trends affecting United Nations and SLT partners operations; - Directs and conducts the acquisition, validation, collation, analysis and evaluation of a variety of open- source documents and UN publications - Summarize pertinent material and information for analysis - Acquire, examine and collate relevant data into assessments and reports Prepare background materials for threat assessment papers, studies, briefs and reports to support regional analysts, UN and SLT partners - Present information in comprehensive and concise reports and synopses in order to facilitate in-depth analysis in support of UN senior management and SLT partner decision making process. 2. Conduct analysis of trends of security incidents affecting UNSMS and SLT partner organisations at the national and sub-national levels: - Monitor security developments through the use of electronic media and communications (internet and e-mail) - Assembles, examines and analysesstatistical material and data to ensure accuracy, clarity and validity - Cross reference assembled data for verification, validation and quality assurance 3. Develop technical knowledge and awareness of the security threat environments within assigned areas: - Review, collates and and integrate security related information produced by UN security professionalsand security analysts in both the field and headquarters, host government, and SLT partner organisations. - Supports the systematic and timely sharing of security information with SLT partner organisations, including incident reports, situation reports, security alerts, and risk mitigation and contingency measures - Assists in maintaining confidentiality and appropriate handling of shared information in accordance with the SLT Framework, ensuring that such information is used solely for the purpose of enhancing the safety of personnel, operations, and assets. - Produce concise threat profiles and security analyses of non-state armed groups that threaten the Organizations of the UN System, SLT partners andtheir operating environment. 4. Conduct research and analysis on security related aspects affecting UN operations and to the SLT partner community;: - Work closely with other Security Analysts in the review of country Security Risk Assessments and Security Risk Management processes - Prepare analytical briefs for key decision makers on current/significant events - Interpret information to determine evolving security threat trends 5. Manage the databases of threats, security incidents and related assessments including the collation and organization of all products generated w within the security office; supports the development and upkeep of security information systems that facilitate coordination and information sharing exchange with SLT partner organisations. 6. Supports the establishment and maintenance of SLT security coordination mechanism, including administrative and logistical preparation for joint security coordination forums and meetings; assists in the development and delivery of security awareness sessions for SLT partner organisations, contributing to capacity building and the harmonisation of security training across the humanitarian community. 7. Actively supports the implementation of approaches to mainstreaming gender, diversity, and inclusion into all aspects of the work, including people-centred security risk management approaches that consider specific threats or vulnerabilities of diverse personnel and adapt practices and measures in support of diversity and inclusion 8. Perform other analytical and research assignments and tasks as required.

Education

An advanced university degree (Masters degree or equivalent) in political, military or criminal science, international relations or related fields. A first-level university degree in any of these fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in applied military, police, international relations, disarmament affairs, conflict resolution, crime or terrorism prevention or political predictive analysis or security studies of threat factors in the field of criminology and/or corporate security is required; Experience in international organizations, public, private or corporate sector within security or related area is required. Experience in researching, analysing, and synthesising security threat information from multiple open and restricted sources is desirable. Prior experience working within South Asia region, with demonstrated knowledge of the local security, political, and operational context, is desirable. Experience working with or supporting inter-agency security coordination mechanisms, including those involving Non-Governmental Organisations, International Oganisations, or Saving Lives Together partner organisations, is desirable. Experience in developing or maintaining security information databases, analytical products, or threat assessment reports in a field security context is desirable.
