Location: Paris, France
Duration of assignment: 2 years with possibility of extension for another year. The extension of appointment is subject to yearly review concerning priorities, availability of funds and satisfactory performance.
Please note that for participants of the JPO programme two years work experience are mandatory! Relevant work experience can be counted. In order to assess the eligibility of the candidates, we review the relevant experience acquired after obtaining the first university degree (usually bachelor’s degree)

The Renewable Energy Division (RED) is part of the Directorate of Energy Markets and Security (EMS) at the International Energy Agency (IEA). It is in charge of assessing the status and progress of renewable energy technologies, markets and policies. It tracks progress of renewables towards the global target of tripling global renewable capacity by 2030 agreed at COP 28, and towards national energy and climate policy objectives.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) seeks to recruit a Junior Energy Policy Analyst in the Renewable Market and Policy team of the Renewable Energy Division. The Junior Energy Policy Analyst will work on the Agency’s analysis of renewable energy policies and markets in Member countries and emerging economies, contributing to the annual flagship Renewable Energy Market Report publication. They will also contribute to the update and enhancement of the renewable energy section of the IEA Policy Database.

Main Responsibilities
Working as part of a small team under the supervision of the Senior Energy Analyst in charge of renewable energy markets and policies, and with the guidance of the Head of the Renewable Energy Division.
Analysis and Teamwork
•
Contribute to the monitoring of policy development, provide background research and gather data on renewable energy policies and measures in the electricity, heating&cooling and transport sectors in OECD Member countries, emerging economies and other selected countries where relevant policy developments are underway.
•
Contribute to the assessment of renewable energy policies for the achievement of energy and climate targets, fostering economic development and maintaining energy security.
•
Contribute to the update and further enhancement of the IEA policy database section on renewable energy.
•
The scope of policy analysis will include renewable electricity, heating & cooling, as well as fuels, including biofuels, hydrogen and hydrogen-derived fuels produced through renewable energy.
Liaison and Outreach
•
Collaborate with other divisions in the Agency, providing analysis on renewable electricity, heating & cooling, and renewable fuels, and their role in energy markets and systems.
•
Contribute to develop and maintain contacts with governments, other international organisations, industry and other stakeholders.
•
Contribute to preparations for meetings of relevant IEA standing committees, working parties and other events, including the development of reports, analysis and information items.
•
Support the broader activities of the Division and the Agency through analytical, written and verbal contributions, development of web content and briefs on all aspects of renewable energy markets and policies.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Academic Background
•
A Master‘s degree in political sciences, international relations, economics/econometrics, engineering, physical sciences, statistics, or other relevant disciplines.
Professional Background
•
A minimum of two years’ relevant experience in the field of renewable energy policies.
•
A good understanding of renewable energy policies in the electricity, heat and transport sectors.
•
Experience in the development of quantitative metrics to assess policy and regulatory frameworks.
•
Work experience on emerging economies would be an asset.
Tools
•
Experience with Microsoft Excel.
•
Knowledge of database programs would be an asset.

•
Good drafting skills.
Languages
•
Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) and a knowledge of, or a willingness to learn, the other.
•
Knowledge of other languages would be an asset.
