Mission and objectives
UNICEF BWA organization mission TBD
Context
Botswana faces a significant youth employment challenge, with youth unemployment estimated at 38.2% and reaching as high as 46% among those aged 18–24. Against this backdrop, UNICEF Botswana and ABSA Botswana have established a Skilling and Employability Training Programme for Adolescents and Youth, anchored in the ABSA Ready To Work (RTW) programme.
The programme aims to train at least 20,000 youth aged 18–35 nationwide between 2026 and 2028. The programme is structured in two phases: Phase 1 (May 2026–March 2027) focuses on virtual training delivery reaching 10,000 youth, facilitated by up to 150 RTW Champions/Volunteers. Phase 2 (April 2027 onwards) extends in-person training to 10,000 additional youth in rural and remote communities.
The Ready To Work curriculum covers six core competency areas: Personal Effectiveness, Communication Skills, Financial Literacy, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Digital Skills, and Job Readiness. The programme is delivered through a combination of live virtual sessions, self-paced learning via the RTW mobile application, and peer learning facilitated by trained RTW Champions.
In addition to the Skilling and Employability programme, UNICEF Botswana's Adolescent and Youth Programme encompasses HIV prevention programming for adolescents and engagement with the Generation Unlimited (GenU) initiative. The Youth Project Coordinator will play a cross-cutting role supporting the full breadth of these interventions.
UNICEF Botswana is recruiting a Youth Project Coordinator to provide day-to-day management, coordination, and technical support for the implementation of the Skilling and Employability Training Programme. The Coordinator will serve as the primary operational lead for Phase 1 virtual training delivery, with specific responsibility for supervising and supporting the 50 youth volunteers (RTW Champions) who will facilitate virtual training sessions for the RTW programme. The Coordinator will further support activities under the broader Adolescent and Youth Programme, including HIV and Generation Unlimited programming.
