1. SUMMARY


NATO’s Council Secretariat (CONSEC) bears overall responsibility for the end-to-end enablement of Alliance consultation and decision-making processes – from planning and organization to their effective and efficient implementation. It thereby provides organizational support, advice and linguistic services to the NATO Secretary General and the North Atlantic Council (NAC) as well as to individual Allies and Partners.
The Translation Project Manager supports the execution of translation assignments, helping ensure that translation projects run smoothly and efficiently and meet clients’ expectations. 
This position requires flexibility to work outside of normal hours when workload requires.

2. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE


The incumbent must:
• have successfully completed university-level training in translation or hold a degree in a relevant discipline; 
• have at least 3 years of relevant experience in translation project management/ translation demand processing;
• have experience with Computer Aided Translation (CAT) and collaborative (e.g., Office365, SharePoint) tools;
• have professional certification in project management (e.g., PRINCE2®); and
• possess the following minimum levels of NATO’s official languages (English/ French): VI (“Proficiency”) in one; V (“Advanced”) in the other.

The following would be considered an advantage:
• knowledge of specialized fields related to the topics discussed at NATO and knowledge of other NATO languages and partner countries; 
• able to deal with stress, changes, delays, interruptions and unexpected events, and to multitask and prioritize their own work as well as the work of others; and
• prior experience tasking/ assigning work to cross-functional teams, particularly in an international environment.

3. MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES


Project Management: Under the guidance of the Deputy Head, Linguistic Services and Digital Transformation Lead, oversee the entire life-cycle of translation projects. Support the coordination of freelancers’ work and translation request planning. Assist in ensuring consistent communication between and with all stakeholders involved in the projects. 


Expertise Development: Identify potential efficiency gains throughout the life-cycle of translation projects and recommend improvements. Continuously work to improve client relationship management skills. Manage and track client expectations. Maintain awareness of the different levels of priorities for documents per committee, topic, and document type. Maintain a broad understanding of topical NATO issues.


Stakeholder Management: Establish and maintain continuous contact with customers, in order to process demand effectively, meeting as fully as possible the needs and expectations of customers and other recipients of translations.


Perform any other related duties as assigned.

4. INTERRELATIONSHIPS


Reporting Line: The Translation Project Manager reports to the Deputy Head, Linguistic Service and Digital Transformation Lead. 
Interactions: The incumbent cooperates closely with other colleagues of the Translation Project Management Unit and the Translation Support Assistants, as well as with the broader Linguistic Services. The incumbent also develops and maintains professional relations with external translation providers.

6. CONTRACT
Contract to be offered to the successful applicant (if non-seconded): Definite duration contract of three years’ duration; possibility of an indefinite duration contract thereafter.

Contract clause applicable:
In accordance with the NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations, the successful candidate will receive a definite duration contract of three years, which may be followed by an indefinite duration contract.

If the successful applicant is seconded from the national administration of one of NATO’s member States, a 3-year definite duration contract will be offered, which may be renewed for a further period of up to 3 years subject to the agreement of the national authority concerned. The maximum period of service in the post as a seconded staff member is six years.

Serving staff will be offered a contract in accordance with the NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations.
