CIMMYT is looking for an outstanding, self-motivated, and result-oriented professional to lead the coordination, technical implementation, and scaling of regenerative agriculture and responsible supply projects with private sector companies across the Central, Bajío, and Western regions of Mexico. This role will drive CIMMYT’s sustainability and regenerative agriculture agenda within corn and alternative crop value chains, while strengthening rural agribusiness through improved market access, trade, and positioning across the value chain.

The position will be based in Guanajuato or Jalisco, with high availability for regional travel.

Key responsabilities:

  • Coordinate the local execution of regenerative agriculture, responsible sourcing, and sustainability projects, ensuring the planning and implementation of viable scaling strategies and routes that benefit farmers, organizations, and key stakeholders.
  • Carry out continuous monitoring of regenerative agriculture and sustainability goals and indicators, supervising the collection of critical data in the field (plot polygons, input history, land use, fertilizer and fuel management), guaranteeing the technical feasibility and scientific rigor of measurements that generate key information for corporate sustainability reports on water, carbon footprint and biodiversity.
  • Design and implement strategies to ensure the long-term permanence of farmers and stockpilers in regenerative agriculture programs through the exploration and co-design of innovative contract farming schemes, sustainability-linked bonds and financial models, digital data portfolios, and other viable and relevant incentives.
  • Lead the local governance of CIMMYT's project portfolio with the private sector, involving aggregators, producer organizations, and agribusiness representatives, devising and implementing efficient workflows that ensure smooth and transparent operation.
  • Strengthen relationships with key actors in local maize, wheat, and associated crop chains, increasing the positioning of CIMMYT-led research, regenerative agriculture, social and financial inclusion, and responsible sourcing initiatives.
  • Implement capacity building strategies for the consolidation of agribusiness, SMEs and rural enterprises, allowing these actors to optimize their organizational management processes, efficient raw material supply schemes and service provision, with business models aimed at consolidating in specialized markets that incorporate rural talent and sustainability criteria.
  • Formulate proposals, technically validate and plan sustainable trajectories of change for the development of new initiatives and projects that strengthen CIMMYT's portfolio, ensure resource mobilization and the inclusion of a diversity of rural actors, aligning corporate sustainability needs with the feasibility of their implementation.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Sustainable Development, Environmental Sciences, or closely related fields.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in coordinating agricultural projects, regenerative agriculture, and meeting sustainability KPIs.
  • Demonstrable experience in developing and accompanying agribusinesses in the implementation of business models, inclusive financing, contract farming models and risk management strategies.
  • Understanding inclusive financing tools and models
  • Solid understanding of agricultural value chains, agricultural policies and marketing dynamics of agricultural products in Mexico, certifications and corporate sustainability regulations.
  • Hands-on experience or technical familiarity with greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories and agricultural carbon accounting
  • Advanced level of user in the MS Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word).
  • Advanced mastery of data analysis tools or geographic information systems
  • Professional proficiency in Spanish and English (fluent level of work for writing reports and communicating with international donors/partners).
  • Excellent multicultural communication and negotiation skills.
  • Orientation to results and fulfillment of strategic goals.
  • Ability to manage time and organize under strict deadlines.
  • Proactivity, critical thinking and effective problem solving in complex environments.
