One virtual advisory council meeting of the Regional Media Network convened in January 2027 with a focus on RP27 (invitee list, invitation letters, concept note and agenda). 6. Two Regional Media Network newsletters produced and disseminated: the December 2026 and April 2027 issues. 7. Press releases and media advisories developed and disseminated for RP27. 8. Media outreach, accreditation and registration coordinated for RP27; RP27 media kit and website media section developed. 9. Interviews and press conferences secured and coordinated around RP27. 10. Key media contacts identified and proposed as potential moderators for RP27 sessions. 11. On-site media coordination provided during RP27. 12. RP27 media coverage monitored and disseminated. 13. Background Created in December 1999, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disasters and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations and regional organizations and activities in both developed and less developed countries. Led by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (SRSG), UNDRR has over 160 staff located in its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and in regional offices. Specifically, UNDRR guides, monitors, analyses, and reports on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, supports regional and national implementation of the Framework and catalyzes action, and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk by working with the U.N. Member States and a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians, and the science and technology community. Duties and Responsibilities: The individual contractor will be home-based and will be under the supervision of the External Relations Officer of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean (ROAC). 1. Coordinate media coverage for the World Tsunami Awareness Day event in Chile in November 2026, including media outreach, press materials and coverage monitoring. 2. Secure the placement of two (2) op-eds in regional media around the key advocacy campaigns. 3. Develop a package to disseminate the World Tsunami Awareness Day campaign to the Regional Media Network. 4. Organize a virtual meeting of the Regional Media Network advisory council in January 2027, with a focus on the IX Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas and the Caribbean (RP27), including the preparation of the invitee list, invitation letters, concept note and agenda, and the facilitation of the meeting, to mobilize the network around the Platform. 5. Design and produce two (2) Regional Media Network newsletters, the December 2026 and April 2027 issues and UNDRR’s regional work, including content curation, structure and design, and timely dissemination. 6. Collect and document good practices, impact stories and experiences from across the region to be featured in the newsletters and other communication products, enhancing visibility at national, regional and global levels. 7. Develop and disseminate press releases and media advisories for RP27 and its preparatory milestones. 8. Coordinate media outreach, accreditation and registration for RP27, and prepare the RP27 media kit and the media section of the RP27 website. 9. Secure and coordinate interviews, press conferences and media appearances for UNDRR spokespersons and partners around RP27. 10. Identify and propose key media contacts from across the region who could act as moderators for RP27 sessions and support the coordination of their engagement. 11. Support the delivery of one dedicated media session at RP27, including facilitation, on-site coordination of journalists, and the preparation of talking points for media engagement. 12. Undertake media monitoring and ensure the dissemination of RP27 coverage across regional and national outlets. 13. Act as rapporteur for the RP27 media session. 14. Perform other communication and media-related tasks as requested by UNDRR, in support of RP27 and the effective functioning and visibility of the Regional Media Network.

Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in journalism, communication, media relations, international relations, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with at least two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the field of journalism and media relations is required Experience in media relations development and events is required. Experience with regional media across multiple media channels (print, radio, broadcast, online) is required. An established network of media contacts across the Americas and the Caribbean, with a proven track record of securing coverage in regional and mainstream outlets, is required.

English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
