Duties and Responsibilities

The International Trade Centre (ITC) is the joint agency of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization dedicated to supporting the internationalization of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). In The Gambia, ITC works in close collaboration with the Government and development partners to strengthen MSME competitiveness, enhance livelihoods, and promote inclusive and sustainable trade. Current flagship programmes include: • European Union Youth Empowerment Project – Tourism and Creative Industries funded by the European Union, focusing on job creation, entrepreneurship, and sector competitiveness for youth and women. • Andandorr Programme, an MSME acceleration platform anchored at Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency (GIEPA), supporting enterprise growth through capacity building, market access, and access to finance. • WACA Livelihood Programme, implemented in partnership with the World Bank, supporting vulnerable communities with skills development, entrepreneurship, and climate-resilient livelihoods. Through these interventions, ITC continues to deliver integrated solutions across skills development, business development services, market linkages, and policy support. To support programme implementation and provide practical learning opportunities, ITC seeks to engage three (3) university students/graduates for the flagship programmes. Each intern will be assigned a defined programme focus: one intern will support the European Union Youth Empowerment Project – Tourism and Creative Industries, one will support the Andandorr Programme, and one will support the WACA Livelihood Programme. Objective of the Internship The internship aims to: • Provide hands-on professional experience in international development, MSME support, and programme implementation. • Support ITC’s ongoing programme activities through research, coordination, data management, and operational support. • Build the capacity of young professionals and contribute to youth employability and skills development. Scope of Work Each intern will be assigned to one flagship programme – the European Union Youth Empowerment Project (Tourism and Creative Industries), the Andandorr Programme, or the WACA Livelihood Programme – and will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the respective ITC Programme lead. Within their assigned programme, interns will support the following areas of work: 1. Programme Support • Assist, under the guidance of the responsible Programme Officer, in the implementation of activities under the intern's assigned flagship programme • Support coordination of trainings, workshops, and stakeholder engagements to enhance program management support • Assist in logistics, participant tracking, and event organization 2. Research and Analysis • Support desk research on MSMEs, tourism, creative industries, and livelihoods, as part of building practical research and analytical skills • Support development of concept notes, reports, and briefing materials to polish skills in MSME development and project support • Assist in compiling and analysing programme data and indicators, as part of gaining practical exposure to results-based management 3. Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) • Support data collection exercises, surveys, and beneficiary tracking to sharpen data management and analytical skills • Assist in maintaining databases and dashboards • Contribute to baseline and progress reporting to improve skills in report writing 4. Communication and Visibility • Support documentation of activities (photos, reports, summaries) to learn knowledge management in project work • Assist in drafting communication materials (success stories, briefs) • Contribute to donor visibility requirements (EU/UN standards) 5. Administrative and Operational Support • Contribute to general office and coordination support, under the guidance of assigned staff to enhance knowledge on UN program implementation • Gain exposure to administrative and programme-support processes, including assisting with the organization and filing of programme documentation Supervision and Reporting • Interns will report to designated ITC Programme leads • Overall supervision will be provided by the ITC Country Representative ITC champions workforce diversity, inclusion, gender equality and gender parity and considers all qualified persons - of all genders - equally, including those with disabilities, without discrimination or prejudice of any kind.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants to the programme shall, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent); c) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in a or b above) and, if selected, shall commence the internship within one year of graduation. Relevant field of studies: Economics, Business Administration, Accountancy, Development Studies, Statistics, Tourism, Creative Industries, Public Policy, or related disciplines • Prior volunteer experience is an advantage but not required Skills: • Strong analytical and research skills • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) • Ability to work in a multicultural environment • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
