INTERN - CLIMATE POLICY AND FINANCE

The Alliance of
Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture
(CIAT) delivers research-based solutions that harness agricultural biodiversity
and sustainably transform food systems to improve people’s lives. The Alliance
is part of CGIAR, a global
research partnership for a food-secure future. The Alliance solutions address
the global crisis of malnutrition, climate change, biodiversity loss, and
environmental degradation. Through its Climate Action work, the Alliance
supports governments and partners to strengthen climate policy, mobilize and
effectively deploy climate finance, develop climate-resilient investment
strategies, and improve the evidence available for climate-related planning and
decision-making.

The Climate Action Lever contributes
to the implementation of the CGIAR Portfolio 2025–2030, particularly through
the Climate Action Science Program, as well as bilateral and multi-country
projects implemented in collaboration with national governments, regional
organizations, development partners, research institutions, and other
stakeholders.

A key area of work focuses on
strengthening the environment enabling climate action and finance in
agriculture. This includes supporting climate and agricultural policy
processes; costing and prioritizing climate actions; assessing climate risks
and financing needs; strengthening climate finance readiness; developing investment
strategies and pipelines; tracking climate finance and investment
effectiveness; and building institutional capacities for accessing and
effectively utilizing climate finance.

About the position

The Alliance of Bioversity
International and CIAT is seeking a motivated Climate Policy and Finance Intern
to provide technical and analytical support to this portfolio of work. The
internship will provide practical exposure to climate policy, climate finance
and investments, data analysis, capacity development, and stakeholder
engagement.

Roles and Responsibilities

The intern will:

  • Assist in the review,
    preparation, and analysis of climate, agriculture, and climate finance
    policies, strategies, plans, and related technical documents.

  • Support the costing and
    economic assessment of strategic climate and agricultural priorities, including
    estimation of investment requirements and financing gaps.

  • Provide analytical and
    technical inputs to policy development processes in collaboration with national
    governments, regional organizations, research institutions, and development
    partners.

  • Assist in the design and
    delivery of training sessions, workshops, and technical consultations with
    stakeholders

  • Collect, clean, organize,
    analyze, and synthesize global, regional, national, and subnational climate
    related data

  • Support the development of
    frameworks, tools, guidelines, and monitoring, learning and evaluation
    frameworks to execute climate finance project pipelines

  • Contribute to the
    preparation of technical reports other knowledge products e.g. policy briefs,
    technical notes, presentations, and journal papers

Requirements

Qualifications
and Experience

Bachelor's degree with specialization or
equivalent, in Agricultural Economics, Economics, Climate Change, Environmental
Economics, Environmental Science, Agriculture, Development Studies, Natural
Resource Management, or another closely related discipline, master’s degree
desirable.

Desirable
Skills

  • Demonstrated
    interest in climate change, climate policy, climate finance, agricultural
    development, or sustainable investment.

  • Basic knowledge of
    quantitative and/or qualitative research and data-analysis methods

  • Strong analytical,
    research, writing, and communication skills.

  • Ability to
    synthesize technical information and communicate findings clearly.

  • Proficiency in
    Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to work independently
    and effectively within multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.

Languages

  • English required

Supervision
and Working Arrangements

The
intern will work under the supervision of the designated Climate Action team
lead/supervisor and will collaborate closely with scientists, policy
specialists, economists, project teams, and other technical staff across the
Alliance.

Assignments
may involve collaboration with government ministries and agencies, CGIAR teams,
regional organizations, development partners, financial institutions, research
organizations, and other project stakeholders.

The
internship may include participation in technical meetings, stakeholder
consultations, workshops, training activities, and, where applicable, field or
country missions.

Terms of
employment

These are 3 (ThreeNational recruited positions based inNairobi,
Kenya. The initial contract will be 6
months renewable depending on performance and availability of resources.
