About CF4J
CF4J works to preserve, protect and advance the use of its archives, including the Caesar Archive, for accountability in Syria. Its work covers engagement with the IIIM and IIMP, universal jurisdiction advocacy, data-matching to identify missing persons, the secure digital transfer of the archive, and research on Syria’s transition and accountability.
Role
The intern will support CF4J’s fundraising and donor reporting cycle, working directly with the Project Officer. The role suits a candidate who wants hands-on experience in the full grant lifecycle (prospecting, application drafting, budgeting and reporting) within a small human rights organisation working in French and English.
Responsibilities
• Research and maintain a pipeline of funding opportunities, including institutional, municipal and foundation funders, with eligibility, deadlines and fit assessments
• Draft and edit grant application narratives, concept notes and project descriptions in French and English
• Support budget construction, including cost allocation, co-financing tables and funder-specific formats
• Contribute to narrative and financial reporting on active grants, including collating activity data and indicators from programme staff
• Support reporting on multi-partner and sub-grant arrangements, coordinating inputs from consortium partners
• Prepare and update organisational documentation used in applications and due diligence, including policies, registration documents and partner information
• Support CF4J’s financial sustainability planning, including partnership development and alternative revenue options such as crowdfunding
• Maintain a grants calendar and shared repository of reusable content, past submissions and funder correspondence
Requirements
• Current enrolment in, or recent completion of, a Master’s or advanced degree in human rights, international relations, law, development, nonprofit management or a related field
• Knowledge of the Syrian context and of Syrian civil society
• Excellent written English and French, with the ability to draft and edit to funder specifications and word limits
• Demonstrated ability to present complex material concisely and with concrete specificity
• Basic budgeting skills and comfort working with spreadsheets and financial templates
• Strong organisation, attention to deadlines and accuracy under time pressure
• Ability to handle sensitive information discreetly
Desirable
• Prior experience drafting or reporting on grants for a nonprofit, foundation or public funder
• Working knowledge of Arabic
• Familiarity with the French funding landscape and application formats
• Understanding of results-based frameworks (logframes, theories of change, indicators)
• Interest in transitional justice, accountability or Syria-focused civil society
