Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of the Senior Human Rights Officer/Coordinator of the Global Alliance for Human Rights (EO) and in close coordination with the Communications Lead of the Global Alliance initiative, the Junior Communications Individual Contractor (IC) will assist the communications efforts of the Global Alliance for Human Rights. The objective of the contract is to implement a coherent, recognizable and engaging public identity for the Global Alliance, and to support its positioning as an innovative, action-oriented, multi-stakeholder mobilization leading up to the 80th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Within delegated authority, the IC will be responsible for the following duties: • Assist the development and implementation of the Global Alliance’s communication strategy. • Draft a Global Alliance's advocacy calendar in collaboration with creative agency and partners. • Develop and produce compelling social media content that is optimized to reach target audiences across a range of platforms and channels, using content creation and design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) and basic video editing for short-form multimedia content (Reels, TikTok, Shorts). • Support the production of partner social media and other digital media content, including trough the development of strategic messaging guidelines. • Research and draft compelling impact stories for newsletters, annual reports, grant renewals and external communication materials, ensuring alignment with human rights-based messaging principles and UN system communication standards. • Keep abreast of the latest trends in communications and maintain expertise in relevant and emerging technologies. • Assist in the development of creative campaign concepts, content, and materials, including digital and print assets, social media posts, email communications, and multimedia content. • Assist in ensuring that all communication and campaign materials effectively convey the impact of the organization's work and comply with the organization's standards and branding. • Provide strategic advice on digital media strategies, including website design. • Monitor platform analytics and audience engagement metrics to inform content optimization and reporting. • Adapt messaging and content for diverse cultural and linguistic audiences in coordination with regional partners. • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills

An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in communications, journalism, international relations, digital communications or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree At least 2 years of experience in public information, journalism, marketing or related fields, including experience in producing social media and multimedia content and using content creation/design tools. -Experience in the production of digital assets and other communication products is required. -Experience in providing strategic advice related to strategic communication on social media and the web is required. -Excellent drafting and communication skills are required. -Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment are required. -Proficiency in computer applications, including the Microsoft Office suite, AI tools and social media platforms is required. -Proficiency in video production, including basic video editing for short-form multimedia content, is required. -Proficiency in graphic design, including relevant software, such as the Adobe Suite, is required. -Proficiency in social media analytics and reporting tools (e.g., Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics) to inform content optimization is required. -Proficiency in social media analytics and reporting tools (e.g., Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics) to inform content optimization is required. -Knowledge of human rights, multilateral affairs or the UN system is desirable. -Proficiency in end-to-end video production, from concept development to final editing, including motion graphics and advanced editing techniques, is desirable.
