About us (“We are”)
Unit C.1.GA.2 specializes in the translation into Irish of legislative texts in many specialist subject areas, notably for DGs COMM, COMP, EPSO, HERA, HOME, JUST, MOVE, OP, REFORM, SANTE, SG, SJ and TRADE as well as Commission websites, press releases and other communicative material. We also evaluate and revise documents translated into Irish by freelance translators. The Unit actively participates in DGT initiatives such as the Juvenes Translatores competition, European Masters in Translation network, etc

We offer a challenging and stimulating position working with the European Commission, the executive of the European Union, where most of the legislative proposals and all implementing legislation and technical standards originate. The successful candidate will translate legal, technical, administrative, communication and policy documents for the European Commission. He/she will also perform other tasks related to translation, such as the revision of other colleagues' work, and the revision of outsourced translations, and contribute to other horizontal initiatives of the Department like terminology and work on translation resources. The position offers the possibility to work in a friendly and dynamic team. We encourage continuous learning and professional development, and we provide a

Qualifications, experience and skills (“We look for”)

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated new colleague to work as an Irish-language translator. An excellent command of the Irish language and an excellent knowledge of English are essential. Knowledge of French is an advantage. Knowledge of other EU languages is a further advantage. Team spirit, resilience, ability to work under pressure and with tight deadlines as well as flexibility are required. Translation experience in our policy areas is an asset. As DGT is an early adopter of cutting-edge language technologies, candidates should be willing to adapt to technological developments in the workplace. Experience using translation tools is an advantage.
