Malteser International is the international humanitarian relief agency of the Sovereign Order of Malta. For over 60 years we provide relief and recovery for people during and following conflicts and disasters around the world. Christian values and humanitarian principles form the foundations of our work. In over 30 countries in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and the Middle East, we support people in need – regardless of their religion, origin or political convictions.
As part of its organisational development agenda, Malteser International is strengthening the standardisation and digitalisation of core processes across the organisation. Through the gradual roll-out of Odoo modules, MI is creating a globally harmonised platform that supports effective humanitarian project management, supply chain management, and funding opportunity management, supporting evidence-based decision-making and organisational learning.
Malteser International is seeking a motivated Project & Portfolio Manager to join our Headquarters team in Cologne on a one-year fixed-term contract as parental leave cover.
In this role, you will help shape the future of digital project management at Malteser International and strengthen a globally harmonised platform for effective humanitarian action. By connecting organisational needs with practical digital solutions, you will effectively provide hands-on support for the development, testing and roll-out of Odoo further modules and contribute to cross-platform coordination and operations.
Your responsibilities:
- Drive the global roll-out, operation and continuous improvement of Malteser International’s PPM and MI Data solutions within its new digital core system Odoo as part of MI’s wider platform landscape.
- Act as Product Owner for PPM and MI Data, managing development priorities and user requirements, and contribute to platform governance, roadmap planning and coordination with IT service providers.
- Coordinate onboarding, training, user support and knowledge management for PPM and other Odoo modules, working with Country Offices, programme teams, key users and partner organisations.
- Support the development, testing, roll-out and ongoing operation of Odoo modules beyond PPM, providing hands-on platform support across areas such as Procurement, Warehousing, Sales Pipeline and future modules.
- Monitor platform adoption, user feedback and operational performance across Odoo, translating lessons learned into continuous improvements of platform operations and support structures.
- Support cross-platform coordination by identifying dependencies, facilitating alignment between module owners and contributing to coherent standards across Odoo modules.
Your profile:
- University degree in international development, project management, information systems, humanitarian assistance or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in product management, IT project management, organisational development, PME/MEAL, or digital transformation within an international environment.
- Experience with Odoo or comparable business platforms, including system roll-outs, digital tools and process standardisation.
- Strong understanding of project cycle management, monitoring and evaluation processes, combined with an understanding of digital product and platform governance.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate diverse stakeholders, translate business requirements into practical solutions, and provide training and user support.
- Excellent analytical, organisational and communication skills, with a high level of cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively in agile and multicultural teams.
- Fluency in English (additional languages are considered an asset) and willingness to travel to crisis-affected areas.
What we offer:
- A responsible and exciting job in a committed, international working environment
- A one-year fixed-term contract as parental leave cover starting as soon as possible
- A modern, well-equipped workplace in our Cologne Headquarters with flexible working hours and mobile working arrangements
- Adequate compensation according to AVR-Caritas including Christmas and holiday pay, child allowance as well as a company pension scheme and other social benefits (including subsidy for public transport)
