RAHMO - Rahmo Development Organization
Helping Today, Helping Tommorow
Rahmo Development Organization (RAHMO) is a collaborative and participatory non-governmental, non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the development of Somali communities. Established in 1992 to advocate for the protection of human rights, save and improve lives of most vulnerable, poorest and marginalized families affected by poverty and/or crisis, eradicate poverty and empower women and children to reach their full potential. RAHMO focuses on local resource mobilization and the promotion of management capacities within communities.
Establishment
RAHMO was founded through the collective efforts of community members, intellectuals, and experienced elders. These founders were driven by a shared vision and a combined ideology to address the prolonged and severe problems faced by Somali communities. They recognized the need for an organization that could standardize efforts to provide basic services, such as nutrition, protection, education, access to WASH (Water and Sanitation hygiene) and infrastructure, especially for marginalized and vulnerable populations, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and host communities.
