Mission and objectives

ONU FEMMES est l’Entité des Nations-Unies en charge de l’autonomisation de la femme et de l’égalité des sexes. Elle a été créée en juillet 2010 par l’Assemblée Générale des Nations. ONUFEMMES coordonne les efforts du Système des Nations-Unies pour la mise en œuvre des engagements pris en matière de genre à travers le monde. ONU FEMMES œuvre, entre autres, pour : l’élimination de toutes les formes de discriminations à l’encontre des femmes et des filles, l’autonomisation et l’entreprenariat des femmes et l’égalité entre hommes et femmes en tant que partenaires et bénéficiaires du développement, des droits de l’homme, de l’action humanitaire, de la paix et de la sécurité. Au Niger, comme dans les autres pays connaissant une instabilité sécuritaire dans certaines zones et en contexte de conflit, la thématique humanitaire est l’un des principaux axes d’intervention de ONU Femmes.

Context

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. UN Women country Office contributes to its global corporate mandate to make the vision of the sustainable Development Goals a reality for women and girls and stands behind women’s equal participation in all aspects of life. Its main objective is to promote women’s human rights and gender equality which are key in sustaining and furthering achievements in stability and development. In this regard, its programming in the Country is connected of five corporate priority areas: (1) women’s leadership and political participation;(2) enhancing women’s economic empowerment;(3) engaging women in all aspects of peace and security processes; (4) advancing women’s rights to live free from violence; and (5) Implementing gender responsive budgeting and governance. UN Women also coordinates and promotes the UN system’s joint work in advancing gender equality.

Task description

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Operations Manager or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV ICT ASSISTANT will: 1. Provide support to the implementation of ICT strategies and new technologies in accordance with corporate information management and technology standards, guidelines, and procedures: • Provide IT support in the use of Quantum/ SharePoint (UN Women’s implementation PeopleSoft ERP) functionality for improved business results and improved client services. 2. Provide technical IT support in the Country Office • Provide technical support to the installation and maintenance of all communication systems including mobile and satellite phones, commercial and in-house developed software, and anti-virus! • Set up new email accounts for Country Office staff, liaising with HQ for guidance. • Monitor file server traffic, usage, and performance on a regular basis. • Provide technical support to the installation corporate software and related upgrades. 3. Ensure efficient networks administration: • Monitor the network connection daily to ensure stable and responsive network environment. • . Configure network printers and provide user access as required. • Trouble-shoot and monitor network problems; respond to user needs and questions regarding network access. • Maintain measures for business continuity and disaster recovery processes and procedures including backup and restoration of both server and local storage facilities. • Provide technical support to Local Area Network (LAN) management in accordance with UN Women requirements. 4. Provide administrative support regarding ICT issues: • Maintain inventory and stock of supplies and spare parts in cooperation with the Procurement Unit • Research and retrieval of data from internal and external sources; prepare statistical charts, tables, and reports as required. • Provide ICT support to key events. 5. Contribute to knowledge building and knowledge sharing in the RO: • Contribute to the organization of trainings for the Country Office staff on ICT issues. • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities: • Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country. • Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities. • Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; • Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers. • Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible. • As an active UN Women team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to UN Women and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including: • Well maintained and serviced hardware and software • Quality support and advice to clients • Timely web maintenance • Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment. • A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed.
