Job Description

Job Overview: We are looking for a Social Worker, who under the guidance and supervision of the SIL Unit Coordinator and the Child Protection Manager, will conduct all steps of the case management process for the adolescents residing in the SIL apartments and ensure all adolescents have an individual action plan created and followed up. The job holder will ensure that adolescents attend formal education classes or vocational training as appropriate and receive the appropriate services to develop their skills and their potential, with the aim of integration. They will cooperate fully with the caretakers, and other staff members of the support team, for the provision of quality and holistic psychosocial, educational, recreational, and integration activities, as well as with various external service providers.
This position is subject to funding availability.
Major Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Ensure unaccompanied children residing in the SIL apartments receive individual case management support by conducting assessments, action plans, direct psychosocial service provision, referrals and follow-ups;
  • Act as a reference person for an assigned number of unaccompanied children and closely follow up on their daily routines;
  • Arrange weekly in-person meetings with the UAC, to support them in maintaining open communication and deal with the needs they have.
  • Ensure, along with the educator, that the unaccompanied children are enrolled in formal and non-formal educational, recreational, and integration activities and participate actively;
  • Ensure all unaccompanied children have a clear life plan, depending on their age, interests, and wishes, and that the plan is adapted and updated accordingly;
  • Participate in the reception of the new UAC arriving in the apartment, provide instructions and guidance through the rules and responsibilities they have, and fill in the appropriate documents
  • Along with the caretakers, organize structured, group skills-building sessions to enable unaccompanied children to enhance and/or develop their life /soft and transition skills;
  • Cooperate closely with the SIL Unit Coordinator and Lawyer to ensure that all unaccompanied children receive legal support as needed;
  • Organize group activities and group thematic sessions in cooperation with the caretakers;
  • Ensure adolescents closer to adulthood receive the appropriate services and proactively cooperate with the IRC Livelihoods department and external service providers for the provision of job readiness pieces of training and the transition planning;
  • Proactively identify any behavioral changes or issues the unaccompanied children might have and complete the appropriate referrals to external specialized services;
  • Ensure effective communication with relevant state and non-state stakeholders, such as the General Secretary, UN agencies, Prefectures’ social services, other CP actors and NGOs and other IRC programs;
  • Directly work with other profiles and professionals internal or external service providers on management of caseload and referrals;
  • Communicate regularly with other case management and protection staff for updates on achievements and challenges identified with unaccompanied children;
  • Contribute to the development of proposal activities in relation to legal and health assistance;
  • Keep all case management files updated and secured, according to the Data Protection and Information sharing Protocols in place;
  • Complete all reports in a timely manner;
  • Consistently and proactively monitor/assess the safety and security of unaccompanied children residing in the apartments; promptly reporting concerns or incidents to IRC management;
  • Possibly, and only in case of urgent issues, conduct visits at the apartments during night shifts
  • Participate into case conferences, working groups, ad hoc workshops and thematic trainings when required;
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support the unaccompanied children and enable and develop IRC programs.
  • Directly communicate effectively with the rest team members on the quality and effectiveness of individual UAC case plans;
  • Regularly attend team meetings and other internal and external meetings
  • Promote and actively participate in initiatives and efforts to build team engagement, inclusion, and cohesion in IRC Greece.
  • Foster ongoing learning, honest dialogue and reflection to strengthen safeguarding and to promote IRC values and adherence to IRC policies.
Job Requirements:
  • Technical diploma or degree in social work, including a license to practice;
  • Active membership in the Hellenic Association of Social Workers.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in social work, case management, provision of psychosocial support to unaccompanied children, ideally in humanitarian or development settings;
  • Previous experience in institution/safe zone/ shelter/SIL for children/ and persons with disabilities highly desirable;
  • Previous experience in group work with unaccompanied children is highly desirable;
  • Fluency in Greek and English is required;
  • Demonstrated understanding of working with unaccompanied children/people with different cultures etc.
  • Personal qualities: Team player, responsive, flexible, network-builder, able to handle pressure well and work in cross-cultural settings;
  • Understanding and sensitivity to the needs of people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures;
  • Strong sense of personal integrity;
  • Strong negotiation and coordination skills;
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task while working in a fast- paced environment;
  • Cultural awareness and ability to build relationships quickly with a wide variety of people;
  • Computer skills: Knowledge of MS Office, Internet, Outlook, and competency with new technologies required.
OTHER:
• Must successfully complete criminal background check and submit a clean criminal record
• Must be able to work flexible hours, including afternoons and in cases of emergency evenings and/or weekends;

Working Environment
Working hours: Morning and afternoon working hours. Due to the nature of the program and based on the program's needs, flexibility is required. Working afternoon hours or covering night shifts and being on call might be required.
Travel and other requirements: Travel requirements between the apartments within Attica and occasionally to other areas of IRC programs within Athens.
