Background
Background/Context
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
In 2025, the global community will mark the thirtieth anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women and adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA) (1995), and 10 years of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals. In accordance with ECOSOC Resolution E/RES/2022/5, The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) will lead the Asia-Pacific regional intergovernmental review of the BPfA, in close collaboration with UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific.
As part of the review process, ESCAP in collaboration with UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific will convene the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on the Beijing+30 Review from 19 to 21 November 2024. The conference is expected to reinvigorate political commitment to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in Asia and the Pacific and build regional consensus on priority actions to accelerate the implementation of commitments made in the BPfA. The outcome will serve as the region’s input to the deliberations at the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women in 2025.
Recognizing the power of art to create awareness and catalyze change, ESCAP and UN Women aim to leverage the opportunity presented by the Beijing+30 Review to launch the ‘Art for Impact: Beijing+30 Digital Art Competition’.
ESCAP and UN Women Asia and the Pacific is hosting and digital art contest and an online and in person digital art exhibition from artists from across the Asia-Pacific region with pieces that entries that resonate with the themes of the 12 priority areas outlined in the Beijing Platform for Action, alongside other emerging thematic issues including digitalization, climate change, and the care economy. After the contest, the selected pieces will be exhibited at the © Ministerial Conference on the Beijing+30 Review conference venue, and winners will receive recognition during the high-level event.
