Mission and objectives
UNDP's mandate is to end poverty, build democratic governance, rule of law, and inclusive institutions. We advocate for change, and connect countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life.
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has partnered with Bangladesh ever since its birth and through its remarkable journey from a war-ravaged economy to a middle-income country. It remains a catalyst in Bangladesh’s journey from Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. UNDP assists in building institutions and helps strengthen institutional capacities through people-centric, pro-poor, inclusive and sustainable policy making and development governance.

Context
The Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) located in the south-eastern part of Bangladesh is facing many social, economic, and environmental challenges. Decades of conflict and environmental degradation have left indigenous communities, particularly women, vulnerable. Climate change worsens this situation by causing water scarcity, landslides, and declining crop yields.
The proposed UNDP sub projects, ‘WGEIE’ and ‘CoRLIA’ under the bigger umbrella project Ecosystem Restoration and Resilient Development in Chittagong Hill Tracts (ERRD-CHT), UNDP-Bangladesh, aims to create an inclusive learning environment for girls and women and empower women to lead climate adaptation efforts respectively. The ERRD-CHT Project will produce results on four interlinked levels, thereby strengthening the ability of the population to enhance resilience, development and governance that impact the people’s lives and livelihoods. The main objective of ERRD-CHT project is ‘to strengthen gender-responsive resilience and development through improved governance and ecosystems, and adaptive livelihoods with market access.” which will be achieved through the following four Outputs:
Output 1: Improved and resilient forest ecosystems and livelihoods.
Output 2: Enhanced capacity and institutional building of the CHT institutions and strengthened democratic governance with increased people’s participation, responsive communities and more effective service delivery.
Output 3: Inclusive and gender-responsive learning and empowerment among women and girls.
Output 4: Enabled environment for self-reliant youth development and leadership.
The project will be implemented in all 121 Unions of 26 Upazilas in the three Hill Districts of Rangamati, Khagrachari and Bandarban. In the CHT, nearly 100,000 rural- and urban households will directly benefit from the project. It will include the extreme urban and rural poor and vulnerable groups, including women and youth.
The sub-projects will be implemented in partnership with 3 Hill District Councils in 3 hill districts of Chittagong Hill Tract under the guidance of the Ministry of CHT Affairs (MoCHTA).
The Communications Assistant will help the project team of ERRD-CHT with preparation and execution of Communications plan, formulation, execution and follow-up of communications action plans, drafting the communications strategy, assist preparing visibility promotional materials, support organizing various events, support preparing results reports for development partners and so on.
