Organizational Setting
The main aim of the Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO’s) Representation in Egypt, which is headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist the Government of Egypt to develop policies, programmes and projects to improve food security and nutrition, promote sustainable agricultural development, reduce rural poverty, develop inclusive agri-food systems and strengthen livelihood resilience – in line with the Organization’s Strategic Objectives and United Nations’ global and Government of Egypt’s national Sustainable Development Goals.
The position is located in the project Office in Behira and Kafr ElSheikh, Egypt.
Reporting Lines
The Field Coordinator reports to the project governorate coordinator and to the project manager.
Technical Focus
The field coordinator will work closely with the national governorate coordinators, project beneficiaries, government and non-government agencies and other stakeholders to ensure the project’s objectives are met. He/She will be responsible on the implementation of the project activities in the governorate’s selected villages. Also, the monitoring, evaluation, documentation and the dissemination of outputs. He/She will participate and facilitate the capacity building of the local farmers and the governmental officials.
Tasks and responsibilities
• In collaboration with other project team, undertake visits to agriculture directorates and potential NGOs in Behira and Kafr ElSheikh for CSA orientation at the new project potential sites/villages as a first step of pre-selection of project sites.
• Survey of the current implemented projects at the governorate for identification of future synergies.
• This contribution will be achieved through the support of participatory, integrated and community-based approaches to sustainable smallholder agricultural development, agricultural climate change adaptation and agri-food systems.
• The incumbent will be responsible for providing field coordination, technical assistance to the project “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Agricultural Biodiversity for Enhancing the Adaptive Capacity of Vulnerable Rural Communities in Old and New Lands of Upper and Lower Egypt”. - GCP/EGY/039/CAN
• The incumbent will ensure that activities will focus on women beneficiaries, to promote their empowerment and creation of economic opportunities.
• Coordinate with local and central experts and research institutes (e.g., ARC, agriculture colleges, private companies) to review the technical programs of the crops and seedlings which will be cultivated and ensure that the technical information is compliant with GAP and CSA standards and is presented with a simple and understandable language and illustrations.
• Assess beneficiaries training needs, and ensure knowledge and skills gaps are filled through on-job training.
• In collaboration with facilitators, prepare training reports and submit to the governorate coordinator.
• In collaboration with the technical experts and M&E specialist, provide the accurate information about field implementation activities.
• Contribute to exchange visits to showcase good examples of modern farming, postharvest and agribusiness activities (e.g., modern farms, agri-food companies, postharvest/value addition facilities, input stores, etc.).
• Participate in all events at field level and field missions of FAO and donor officials, as requested.
• Any other duties related to the incumbent’s field of experience, as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• A bachelor's degree in agriculture, agribusiness, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in agricultural development, preferably in a field-based role.
• Working knowledge of English.
• National of Egypt.
