Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger. Our goal is to achieve food security for all and make sure that people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active, healthy lives.

FAO Sub-Regional Office for Central Asia (SEC) is responsible for developing, promoting, overseeing and implementing strategies for addressing food security, agriculture and rural development priorities in the sub-region, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The Organization’s technical assistance includes institution building, development of knowledge and competencies, and exchange of experience among countries facing the challenges of transition.

FAO is implementing a project “Sustainable beekeeping and exchange of cooperation between Türkiye and Ukraine" which aims to improve coordination and information flow among the stakeholders in the beekeeping sectors of Türkiye and Ukraine and enhance capacity of apicultural educators.


Reporting Lines

Under overall supervision of the FAO Subregional Coordinator for Central Asia and the Lead Technical Officer (LTO), direct supervision of International Livestock Specialist (SEC) and in close collaboration with national consultants and in liaison with SEC Field Programme Unit (FPU) / Programme Implementation Unit (PIU), the incumbent will contribute to implementation of the FTPP project GCP/SEC/026/TUR.


Technical Focus

Enhancement of apicultural education and knowledge transfer in Türkiye and Ukraine.


Tasks and responsibilities

• Guide two comprehensive studies one for Türkiye and one for Ukraine to analyse existing education and training opportunities available to potential and existing beekeepers, including comparative analysis of curricula, textbooks and practical teaching approaches;
• Contribute to a three-day experience exchange event (with simultaneous interpretation in English/Turkish/Ukrainian languages) for beekeeping educators from colleges, trade schools, universities as well as advisory/extension services from both countries and international experts;
• Contribute to development of a localized trilingual (English/Turkish/Ukrainian) glossary of beekeeping terminology;
• Guide development of a practical guideline (in English, Turkish and Ukrainian languages) on applying Farmer Field Schools (FFS) approach for enhancing apicultural practices.


CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING


Minimum Requirements

• University degree in animal production, beekeeping, economics, natural sciences, public administration, or other related fields
• At least five years of relevant experience in apicultural education
• Working knowledge of English (level C)

• Experience in stakeholder engagement across public, private, community, NGO and academic spectra and facilitating partnerships and collaboration in socially inclusive and equitable manner;
• Experience in coordination and guidance of international, multidisciplinary teams.
