Terms of Reference

The UNHCR Hired Lawyer (UHL) is a registered lawyer reporting to the Protection Associate/Senior Protection staff in Sub-Office Mashhad and is responsible for providing legal assistance and representation to refugee cases assigned by UNHCR, including by participation in the Dispute Settlement Committee (DSC) sessions. S-he ensures that legal assistance and representation is provided timely and at the required standards.
The incumbent should be a registered lawyer with extensive legal experience in Mashhad and possess a solid knowledge of refugee protection issues, and the ability to collaborate effectively with government entities, legal practitioners, and community organizations. The incumbent should have good communication skills in Farsi and English. Familiarity with the legal and socio-political landscape of Mashhad, particularly in relation to refugee integration and rights, is an asset.
