Under the supervision of the Child Protection Officer and the guidance of the international research team, the consultant(s) will carry out the transcription of qualitative interview recordings in Portuguese, including key informant interviews, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions, as per the technical guidance of the international research team and in compliance with the ethical requirements provided by UNICEF.

UNICEF Sao Tome and Principe is supporting the country’s child protection system to strengthen capacity for improved response and prevention of violence against children (VAC). As part of ongoing efforts, a qualitative and quantitative research is being undertaken at national level, in collaboration with the National Institute of Statistics, and various social sector ministries such as education, health and social protection, and the technical support of an international research institution, on the well-being of children and adolescents in STP, with particular focus on knowledge, attitudes and practices related to VAC, in school, family and community settings. The research aims to advocate and inform a context-appropriate policy, legal and programmatic framework (including reporting and referral mechanisms, as well as case management protocols) to address VAC and the design of effective social behavior change interventions. The qualitative data-collection phase of the research, entailing key informant interviews, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions with various stakeholders, has now been completed by the research team. UNICEF STP and the research team are looking for support of 2 to 3 consultants to conclude the transcription of the interviews, in order to proceed with the qualitative data analysis.

The service provider(s) will carry out the following main tasks:
- Participate in a technical session of one-hour by the International Research Team to guide the transcription work
- Successfully finalize UNICEF’s mandatory online Ethics in Research Course

Minimum requirements:
Education: A university degree (Licence) in one of the following fields is required: Social Sciences, International Relations, Government, Public Administration, Public Policy, Social Policy, Social Development, Community Development, or another relevant technical field.
Work Experience: Two years of relevant professional work experience in research, social development, or any other relevant function with specific experience in transcription work.
Language Requirements: Fluent in Portuguese and Working knowledge of English
