Job Overview:
The IRC’s Program Quality and Innovation Unit assists offices that help newly arrived refugees and other low-income individuals reach self-sufficiency by finding entry-level employment and progressing to living wage jobs, learning basic financial management skills and building assets, starting small businesses, and accessing the Earned Income Tax Credit.
Under the supervision of the Tax Site Sr. Associate and local IRC Financial Coach, the Tax Site Coordinator supports the coordination and day-to-day administration of the IRC’s National Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program in Salt Lake City, UT. IRC’s goal is to assist approximately 1,000 taxpayers in appropriately preparing their returns safely, culturally, and linguistically.
Major Responsibilities:

Oversee the day-to-day operations of the IRC’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site during tax season (January – April 2023), including but not limited to:
- Conducting quality reviews and electronically filing tax returns
- Monitoring TaxSlayer to identify clients requiring additional support, such as obtaining signatures or transmitting tax returns to the IRS
- Coordinating and providing technical support to volunteer tax preparers
- Supervision of virtual and in-person volunteer tax preparers
- Providing customer service to clients, as needed
- Maintain accurate data collection and support timely reporting of program metrics
- Ensure compliance with IRS and VITA program policies and procedures, as well as IRC policies
- Complete the IRS Link and Learn tax training at the Advanced level as well as the Site Coordinator Training
- Collaborate with the Financial Coach for guidance and support when needed.

Job Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, or a related field; or mix of equivalent years of related work experience and education preferred;
- Previous experience as a VITA volunteer or familiarity with personal income tax preparation is preferred;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively manage a team of diverse volunteers;
- Experience in a non-profit organization preferred;
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- High level of computer literacy; familiarity with TaxSlayer software is a plus
- High level of comfort and effectiveness in multicultural and multidisciplinary environments.
Working Environment:
- Standard, professional office environment;
- Some evening and weekend work hours will be required;
- Access to reliable internet and a personal computer/laptop
Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
