JOB PURPOSE:

To perform specialized and/or standardized policy and programme-related processes and activities to support the effective delivery of assistance packages.  The Programme Assistant based in the WFP Mozambique Country Office supports delivering WFP’s emergency response and capacity-building support to government counterparts. The candidate must have the necessary experience to ensure adequate levels of WFP support and the interpersonal skills to facilitate effective coordination between multiple units, field offices, and national and sub-national government counterparts to meet the urgent requirements of the affected population.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Contribute towards WFP Mozambique’s efforts to maintain and improve emergency preparedness and response, ensuring alignment with wider programme policies and guidance.

  • Provide efficient coordination and specialized project management support to a range of specific and defined programmes to ensure that the various activities are performed within the established targets following WFP’s policies and procedures.

  • Support and ensure accurate, timely recording of data within the specific technical area of work (e.g. assistance programmes, food security, and vulnerability assessments) and consistency of information presented to stakeholders.

  • Support in the analysis of monitoring reports related to the implementation of CSP ( Country Strategic Plan) Activity 1 to improve program performance

  • Liaise with internal counterparts to ensure effective collaboration and monitor ongoing projects.

  • Foster relationships and support partnership-building with local partners, agencies, NGOs, and government institutions to perform accurate food security analyses and ensure efficient food assistance delivery.

  • Support the capacity building of cooperating partners and national government within a specific technical area.

  • Follow standard emergency preparedness practices to ensure WFP can quickly respond and deploy needed resources to affected areas at the onset of the crisis.

  • Support in the implementation of effective strategies for promoting gender equality, protection, and better disability-inclusive practices within the unit.

  • Perform other activities of the Programme unit as needed.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE:

  • Has facilitated communication with technical teams (i.e. nutrition, VAM, etc.).

  • Has contributed to implementation of programmes.

  • Has observed or assisted with policy discussions.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area.

Experience: Five years or more of professional experience in the relevant field of work.

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station (English) and in the duty station’s language (Portuguese).
