About VentureESG:

VentureESG is a non-profit organisation driving forward the integration of ESG in the Venture Capital industry globally. Founded by a team of two London-based VCs and a Cambridge academic in 2021, we have grown to a VC community of 500+ funds across early and growth stages, sectors and geographies. In parallel, we have developed a community of 110+ institutional Limited Partners (pension funds, state funds, fund of funds, foundations, endowments) to harmonise ESG across the ecosystem. In our decision-making, we are supported by a very active VC Steering Committee and LP Working Group and publish research and tools specific to responsible investing in VC.

About VentureESG Emerging Markets:

Since 2022, VentureESG has been working with Development Finance Institutes (DFI) like British International Investment (BII) and Dutch Entrepreneurial Development Bank (FMO) to develop fit-for-purpose tools and resources to help VCs across the Emerging Markets integrate ESG in the entire life cycle of their investment approaches. Together with the German development agency Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and others, we provide ESG trainings to VCs across Africa, Latin America, and Asia on the best practices on ESG. We regularly convene a community of VCs and LP/DFIs to foster peer learning and insight sharing on ESG.

About the role:

We are looking for a pro-active, organised and curious person, who has experience in the VC / start-up sector as well as expertise on ESG / responsible investment in Emerging Markets. You will join the VentureESG team in a part-time capacity as one of our employees. You will be working directly with Dr Johannes Lenhard on our Emerging Markets workstreams and work with (at least) one further emerging markets (part time) fellow.

Daily tasks will include:

1) Research and toolkit development

  • Lead the design, development, and dissemination of ESG frameworks and tools tailored to Emerging Market contexts, such as ESG policy templates, materiality filters, and case studies

  • Conduct desk research and stakeholder interviews with ecosystem participants (VC investors, LPs, etc) to gather insights on ESG best practices

2) ESG training delivery

  • Develop training materials and resources to enhance ESG knowledge and practical application

  • Contribute to the design and (potentially) delivery of ESG capacity-building workshops and training sessions for stakeholders

3) Community orchestration and partnership management

  • Build and manage a diverse community of stakeholders, including VCs and LPs from across continents and time zones

  • Foster engagement through tailored communications, outreach initiatives, virtual and in-person convenings

  • Identify and onboard new partnerships to strengthen ESG initiatives and broaden our impact

Role requirements:

  • You have experience in the VC and/or startup ecosystems within or related to an Emerging Markets context (Africa, Asia, Latin America), and a demonstrable interest in ESG / responsible investment / sustainable finance

  • You have (qualitative) research experience, ideally working with investors or another kind of expert community

  • You’re willing to work with a high level of autonomy, like to take initiative and feel confident in proactively engaging our community and stakeholders

  • Your English-language communication skills - written and verbal - are strong. Fluency in other languages (e.g. French, Spanish) is desirable

  • You have the right to work in the UK
