CIMMYT is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated, and service-oriented professional for the position of Environmental, Health and Safety Manager to work in Operations Chapter in the department of Human Resources.
The Environmental Health and Safety Manager provides expert EHS leadership to enable the safest operations of CIMMYT’s programs.
The positions will be based at CIMMYT’s headquarters in Texcoco, near Mexico City.
Specific duties:
Organizational Health, Safety, and Medical:
- Oversee the health, safety, and medical services, ensuring consistent implementation and compliance with applicable local regulations.
- Update and implement the CARE and SAFE programs, based on CIMMYT's four pillars: Monitoring of wellness, mental and physical health, organizational health and safety, and gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) through the OHS Dashboard bi-monthly report.
- Monitor workplans and guide local teams in conducting regular workplace inspections to identify potential hazards and verify local regulations are properly applied.
- Guide country admin and HR teams (focal points) on OHS standard activities such as fire extinguishers inspections, hydrants, fire equipment cabinets, eye washers, etc., and the OHS Safety Committee members where applicable.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments, including surveys and interviews, among CIMMYT personnel to identify and address the organization’s OHS and wellness needs, preferences, and interests, including casual workers. Analyze results to identify key areas for improvement.
- Guide the development and implementation of OHS procedures and monitoring tools for every CIMMYT location in compliance with local regulations.
- Assess and monitor health risks in the region where the country offices are located, such as epidemics, and coordinate alerts for staff.
- Maintain accurate records of Occupational Health and Safety inspections, audits, incidents, and compliance activities.
- Develop and implement Environmental responsibility programs.
- Contribute to Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives as required.
- Support and facilitate the work of corresponding OHS Safety Committees.
- Oversee the Medical Service
Training:
- Ensure that all CIMMYT personnel are aware of and trained to identify their risks and responsibilities regarding occupational, health and safety regulations.
- Propose preventive actions/ remedial plans to improve local OHS conditions at Country/ Regional Offices.
- Promote a culture of security across the organization.
- Design and select programs and provide security briefings for employees, consultants, interns, etc.
- The selected candidate must have a Master’s degree in relevant field such as Public Health and Environmental Studies, chemical engineering.
- The selected candidate must have professional work experience in Health and Safety
- The selected candidate must have experience of IPO/INGO organizations.
- English is a must and will be tested, and the candidate should score a minimum of B2 of CEFR.
