Mission and objectives

Our primary purpose at UNHCR is to safeguard the rights and well-being of people who have been forced to flee. Together with partners and communities, we work to ensure that everybody has the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another country. We also strive to secure lasting solutions.

For over half a century, UNHCR has helped millions of people to restart their lives. They include refugees, returnees, stateless people, the internally displaced and asylum-seekers. Our protection, shelter, health and education has been crucial, healing broken pasts and building brighter futures.

Context

Since the onset of the refugee arrivals in Romania, the Government of Romania’s (GoR) immediately activated its refugee response. UNHCR is supporting the Government of Romania through the Regional Refugee Response Plan (RRP). The RRP is a plan, led by UNHCR, that brings together 42 partners -UN agencies, international NGOs, and national NGOs – around a common vision/set of strategic objectives to respond to the refugee situation in Romania.

The UNHCR Inter-Agency Coordination team leads the day-to-day coordination of the RRP. The NUNV will be part of the Inter-Agency Coordination and will support the external dimension of the coordination work. The NUNV will support the fund-raising efforts of the 42 RRP partners with a focus on engagement with private sector partners and business leaders – and aimed at developing a sustainable civil society in Romania that is working towards a “Romania for all”.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Sr. Inter-Agency Coordination Associate, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
