The International Potato Center (CIP) is looking for one (1) Budget & Planning Specialist to provide support to the Finance Department in Lima, Peru.

About CIP: CIP is part of the CGIAR global research partnership committed to transforming food, land, and water systems in a climate crisis. CIP’s mission is to develop and share science-based innovations in potato, sweetpotato, and other root and tuber crops. CIP partners with organizations in over 20 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America to strengthen agri-food systems and provide economic, social, and nutritional benefits, especially for women and youth. We integrate social and biophysical sciences to address complex challenges in food and agriculture.

About the position: This position will support the organization's financial planning, budgeting, and reporting processes, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and operational needs. The selected candidate will report and closely coordinate all activities with the Senior Finance Manager based in Lima, Peru.

Key responsibilities:
1. Budget Development and Oversight:
  • Develop and implement organizational and project budgets in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Monitor budget adherence, analyze variances, and provide actionable recommendations to ensure financial targets are met.
  • Facilitate budget revisions and adjustments based on changing organizational needs or project requirements.
2. Cost Analysis and Optimization:
  • Perform detailed cost analysis to identify opportunities for reducing expenses and improving resource allocation.
  • Assess cost-effectiveness of operational strategies and recommend enhancements to achieve financial efficiency.
  • Work with departments to ensure cost structures align with overall organizational goals.
3. Financial Forecasting and Planning:
  • Create short-term and long-term financial forecasts, taking into account historical data, market trends, and organizational objectives.
  • Assist in strategic financial planning to support decision-making and resource prioritization.
  • Monitor and update forecasts based on actual performance and external factors.
4. Financial Reporting and Insights:
  • Prepare detailed financial reports, dashboards, and presentations for leadership and stakeholders.
  • Provide data-driven insights and analysis to support organizational decision-making.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial performance and projections.
5. Process Improvement and Efficiency:
  • Review and refine financial planning and budgeting processes to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Develop and implement tools, templates, and systems to streamline financial workflows.
  • Foster collaboration across teams to ensure consistency and transparency in financial operations.
6. Compliance and Risk Management:
  • Ensure adherence to financial policies, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Identify potential financial risks and implement mitigation strategies to safeguard organizational assets.
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors to maintain compliance with reporting and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

What are we looking for?
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CMA, CPA) preferred.
  • Proven experience in budgeting, costing, and financial analysis in corporate or non-profit settings, 5 years minimum.
  • Advanced proficiency in English
