The African Union (AU) shares this commitment to improving the lives of people across the continent. The AU’s Directorate of Finance is dedicated to ensuring robust financial management and risk mitigation to support its mission.
To further this goal, we are seeking an Audit Compliance and Risk Management Expert to join our team in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Audit Compliance and Risk Management Expert will also play a crucial advisory role to the relevant Heads of Division on key matters related to auditing and managing of the risks of the African Union. Most importantly, the Expert will serve as focal point in ensuring that the Directorate of Finance complies with audit standards applicable to mitigate the financial and accounting risks of the Union.
Kindly note that this role is with the African Union and is therefore restricted to valid passport-holding nationals of AU member states.
Role and Responsibilities
As the Audit Compliance and Risk Management Expert, you will take on the following responsibilities:
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks on the African Union’s financial operations, assets, and reputation
- Develop and implement risk management policies, procedures, and tools for the Directorate
- Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify, evaluate, and mitigate potential risks
- Provide strategic advice and guidance to senior management on audit compliance and risk management
- Coordinate and facilitate audit and risk management trainings, workshops, and awareness campaigns
- Present audit and risk management reports and provide practical recommendations to senior leadership
- Liaise and collaborate with internal and external auditors, regulators, and other risk management professionals
- Supervise, mentor, and coach a team of auditors and risk management officers
Qualifications
To excel in this role, candidates should possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Advanced University degree (Master’s Degree) in Business Administration, Risk Management, Accounting, or related fields
- At least seven years of relevant professional experience for Master’s Degree holders and ten years for Bachelor’s Degree holders, including three years at expert level in risk management, internal audit, external audit, compliance, or governance
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in risk management methodologies, tools, and best practices
- Experience in designing and conducting risk assessments, audits, compliance reviews, and preparing clear and concise reports
- Experience with risk management frameworks and tools
- Fluent written and spoken English

Remuneration
- The salary attached to the position is at P4 Step 5 inclusive of all allowances for AU internationally recruited staff.
