Mission and objectives
The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (UN RCO) in Nepal works under the strategic guidance of the UN Resident Coordinator (RC) and supports the UN Country Team (UNCT) in the advancement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The UN RCO fulfills the following five key functions in support of the responsibilities of the RC and the UNCT including:
Strategic planning;
Development economics;
Partnerships and development finance;
Data and results management and reporting; and
Research, communications and advocacy.
The UN RCO and UNCT work closely with the Government of Nepal and other Development Partners to support Nepal in achieving Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. The UN RCO team supports the RC and UNCT in ensuring a more coordinated and coherent approach across the work of the UN and is composed of experts in development and humanitarian coordination, information management, human rights, gender equality, communications and communications.

Context
The UNV Humanitarian Coordination support Officer will be based in the UN Residential Coordination’s Office (RCO), which supports the UN Resident Coordinator and the UN Country Team of 17 UN agencies, to facilitate the UN system support in the implementation of the 2023 Agenda and acceleration of progress on Sustainable Development Goals with focus on disaster and humanitarian coordination, UN response on flood response and recovery efforts after heavy rainfall of September 27/28, and other humanitarian coordination.. Based in the RCO, the UNV Humanitarian Coordination support Officer will work under the direct supervision of the head of the RCO, and in day-to-day communication with the humanitarian coordination team, to support and facilitate the humanitarian coordination, preparedness, and support for response in emergency situations in Nepal.
Task description
Under the direct supervision of the Head of the RCO, and in day-to-day work with the Humanitarian Team, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
• Supports RCO to ensure efficient coordination and information exchange for joint UN activities in the support of implementation of the relevant disaster events, emergency preparedness and response;
• Supports RCO in coordination on work related to the joint programmes implemented by UN agencies and inter-agency working groups;
• Supports RCO to promote and facilitate the cluster approach and inter-cluster coordination process in emergency as well as in normal situations;
• Supports RCO in developing situation, monitoring reports, work progress reports, humanitarian and success stories, and donors reports;
• Supports RCO in organizing and implementing field missions, as required, and assist in documenting the findings and the follow up actions.
• Supports in organizing meetings with relevant stakeholders, preparing meeting notes, briefing papers etc.
• Supports RCO in information management related to disaster and emergencies.
• As required, participate and support in cluster meetings, coordination meetings with government, humanitarian country team (HCT) meetings, workshops, training etc.
• Support PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, and Abuse), Accountability to Affected Population (AAP), information management, Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), communication team as when required.
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
