Functional Responsibilities
The functions/duties/key results of the assignment
The incumbent will operate under the direct supervision of Project Managers, Head of Programmes, Programme Management Advisor or their assignees, and in close coordination with the Programme and Partnerships teams, providing technical expertise to support GIS data collection, analysis, mapping, and system integration tasks. Responsibilities include ensuring high-quality GIS documentation, effectiveness, transparency, and integrity, while ensuring that GIS-related activities comply with technical requirements, timelines, budget constraints, and security standards. The incumbent will utilize specialized GIS software and applications
Primary Responsibilities Include:
1. GIS Data Collection and Analysis Support

Participate in preparing needs assessments for GIS-related tasks, focusing on data collection and analysis requirements.

Contribute to the preparation and review of GIS data models, geospatial analyses, and mapping products for projects.

Support in developing and reviewing Terms of Reference (ToRs), technical specifications, and data collection protocols for GIS-related components of projects.

Assist in preparing tender documents for GIS-related projects services, contributing to the evaluation of proposals.

Conduct technical reviews of GIS outputs to ensure compliance with project requirements and applicable standards.
2. Mapping and Visualization Support

Collaborate with project team members to develop detailed and accurate maps, charts, and visualizations tailored to project objectives.

Conduct field visits for data verification and ensure that collected data meets the required accuracy and relevance standards.

Support in ensuring mapping deliverables align with contract terms, international standards, and organizational requirements.

Participate in integrating GIS outputs into broader project reporting and visualization frameworks.
3. Monitoring and Progress Controls

Support in ensuring contractors’ compliance with data collection standards, Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) guidelines, and international best practices.

Participate in coordinating and documenting meetings with contractors, technical supervisors, and other stakeholders, contributing to the preparation of meeting minutes for project-related discussions.

Monitor and review GIS project progress, ensuring that activities are executed on schedule and within budget while adhering to agreed-upon quality standards.
4. Technical Review and Quality Assurance

Support in preparing/reviewing comprehensive GIS documentation, including data collection protocols, analytical reports, maps, specifications, and schedules in accordance with client requirements and international standards.

Assist in reviewing GIS data accuracy, suitability, and potential improvements, offering practical solutions where applicable.

Support in ensuring all GIS tasks meet applicable Quality Management Plan (QMP) and Quality Control (QC) standards.

Produce/review high-quality GIS visualizations and maintain accurate records for all memos, instructions, and data changes.
5. Administrative and Documentation Tasks

Assist in archiving and managing GIS-related documentation, including raw data, processed datasets, and final deliverables.

Contribute to maintaining organized records, ensuring timely scheduling, and tracking of GIS-related project tasks.

Support in preparing periodic progress reports (daily, weekly, and monthly) highlighting work achievements, challenges, and recommendations.

The incumbent may be assigned additional relevant tasks as necessary to support project objectives and organizational goals.
Final Product
Deliver delegated tasks by the supervisor on time, within budget, and meeting the required quality standards. Ensure that GIS data collection, analysis, mapping, and system integration processes are conducted with high quality, adhering to applicable local, international, and organizational standards. Ensure that GIS outputs meet technical specifications, accuracy requirements, and security protocols while complying with relevant Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) guidelines. Implement Protection against Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (PSEAH) measures throughout the GIS project lifecycle, in line with the country PSEAH action plan
Education/Experience/Language requirements
Education
-
Master’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geomatics, Geography, or a related discipline from a recognized university is required.

A Bachelor’s degree with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the Master’s degree.

Membership in relevant professional organizations is an asset.
-
Possession of Project Management Certificates (e.g., PMP) is an asset.
Work Experience
-
A minimum of two years of experience in GIS data collection, analysis, and mapping is required.
-
Experience in spatial data management, geospatial analysis, and cartographic production is required.
-
Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar is required.
-
Familiarity with remote sensing and spatial data processing tools is highly desirable.
-
Experience with programming languages such as Python or R for geospatial analysis is highly desirable.

Work experience with an international organization and/or UN agencies is highly regarded.
Certifications (Desirable):
The below certificates are highly desirable:

Certification in Geographic Information Systems, such as Esri Technical Certification (e.g., ArcGIS Desktop Associate or Professional) or GISCI GISP (Certified GIS Professional), is highly desirable.

Certifications in programming languages (e.g., Python, R) or data analysis platforms are an asset.
Languages

Fluency and communication skills in English and Arabic are required.

Working knowledge of the French Language is an asset.
