- Role and responsibilities
The purpose of the Education Assistant position is to assist in the day-to-day implementation of Education activities in South AO.
Generic responsibilities (max 10)
- Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines, with strict adherence to the Code of Conduct and Child Safeguarding policies.
- Assist a range of support with the implementation of the Education CC portfolio according to plan of action.
- Implement and monitor project activities upon workplan under coordination of Education Coordinator.
- Responsible for organising and delivery of tasks in line with priorities and standards.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of the specialist area of work in which technical assistance and support is being provided, to be most effective in supporting the team.
- Use initiative in day-to-day problem solving in line with agreed procedures, priorities and standards for the area of work.
- Prepare and develop status reports as required by management.
- Promote and share ideas for improvement in your area of expertise.
- Ensure proper filing of documents.
- Promote the rights of refugees, IDPs, returnees and the host community in-line with SPERE and INEE Minimum Standards.
Specific responsibilities
- Assist with NRCs activities related to school rehabilitations, psychosocial support, youth engagement, and other programs.
- Conduct education needs assessment for the above-mentioned activities, gather information and report to line manager.
- Communicate with the schoolteachers and principals, organise meetings, including the planning, procurement request and other relevant procedures.
- Contribute to the education team with preparing progress, regular and donor reports related to school rehabilitations, psychosocial support, youth engagement, and other programs.
- Regularly travel to the field to support education related activities.
- Support ongoing monitoring and reporting of project outputs/outcomes at field level per the M&E plan and donor requirements, including data collection and data entry.
- Ensure direct communication and feedback with beneficiaries and stakeholders at field level, with a focus on community leaders, headmasters/principals, teachers, and students.
- Assist with collection of documents on projects, provide general analysis of data and materials, general weekly/monthly monitoring with the activities.
- Support with monitoring of activities regularly.
- Ensure complaints and feedback response mechanism is in place at field level.
- Any other task relevant to the position as requested by the line and/or technical manager.
2. Competencies

These are skills, knowledge and experience that are important for effective performance.
Generic professional competencies:
- Experience working in the education sector in Ukraine. Experience in humanitarian/recovery context is an asset.
- Experience working in complex and volatiles contexts preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in education, Psychology, Social Work, Child Protection, Social Studies, or Business Administration.
- Basic computer skills, including MS Word, Outlook and Excel required.
- Ability to work diligently both independently and in a team, setting preferred.
- Willingness to travel regularly to the field is require
- Fluency in Ukrainian and Russian, both written and verbal required; intermediate English language skills required.
Context/ Specific skills, knowledge, and experience:
- Good understanding of the education system in Ukraine. Knowledge of the Education in Emergencies context is preferred.
- Knowledge of the circumstance’s needs and challenges that displacement and conflict-affected refugee, host community, returnee and IDP children face preferred.
- Experience working with children and/or educators preferred.
- Experience liaising with and mobilizing local and community stakeholders preferred.
- Field level experience with an NGO an asset.
- Understanding of SPHERE and INEE Minimum Standards an asset.
- Candidates with a university and/or advanced degree preferred; significant experience in the field of Education, PSS or Child Protection considered as asset.
