Position: UN Representative (volunteer)
Location: Geneva, Switzerland
Commitment: 3-5 hours per month
Childhood Education International (CE International) is looking for a motivated candidate based in Geneva, Switzerland to monitor and stay up to date on education and child rights trends and policies as they align with United Nations initiatives. The candidate would survey activities across relevant UN agencies, international organizations, and NGOs that have a presence in Geneva and regularly attend events and meetings. The ideal candidate will be able to dedicate 3-5 hours per month and integrate this volunteer position as part of their professional work interests and development, which includes monthly updates to CE Internationals Senior Global Education Advisor.
General Responsibilities
· Monitor global education and child rights policy, activities, and trends
· Attend global education and child rights events and meetings
· Promote the work and mission of Childhood Education International
· Provide regular updates and attend UN Representatives meetings with CE International
Minimum Qualifications
· General knowledge of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and other international human rights frameworks such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG4 for Education;
· Familiarity with United Nations mechanisms for human and child rights and knowledge of UN bodies and their work such as UNICEF, UNESCO, and UNHCR;
· Familiarity with education systems globally and in challenging contexts such as conflict-affected or low-resource areas, as well as working knowledge of issues such as access to quality education, gender disparities, and inclusion;
· Experience or interest in being an advocate for advancing the rights of children and ensuring inclusive, equitable access to education;
· Relevant education and/or work experience in global education, international relations, law, education, human rights, or development studies;
· Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills and verbal and written communication skills in English.
Ideal Qualifications
In addition to the minimum qualifications above, the qualifications of an ideal candidate include:
· A strong international network in education and development
· Knowledge of global education policy
· Knowledge of humanitarian and development sectors as it relates to the complexities of delivering education and protecting child rights in contexts of conflict and crisis
· Advanced fluency in a UN language other than English: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish.
· Strong strategic-thinking and systems-thinking skills
