Context

The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) plays a pivotal role in offering strategic leadership, comprehensive operational support, and vigilant oversight to the UNSMS organizations. It is committed to safeguarding the security of UNSMS personnel, their families, and the UN premises, thereby ensuring a secure environment for all. The UNDSS is dedicated to facilitating the most secure and efficient execution of the UN's Programme operations within the designated areas. Additionally, the department is always ready to extend its support and offer expert advice to the DO and the SMT whenever required, ensuring that all UN operations are conducted with the utmost safety and efficiency in mind.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of Regional Security Adviser, the National UN Youth Volunteer will:
• Assist in office administrative tasks such office travel arrangements, transportation, logistics and financial claims related;
• To support in searching online related news as required by RSA, provide translation in the meeting with the local law enforcement, such as police stations;
• To issue ID cards for the UNSMS personnel;
• Serve as a focal point with UNDP
• Taking meeting minuets during SMT meeting in the region when required by the RSA.
• Collect and collate information related to the safety and security in the region.
• Maintain the share drive up to date
• Assist in conducting the Physical Security Assessments for UNSMS premises
Assist in meeting the staff lists up to date.
• Coordinate with UNDP building management related to the guard force at the UN house
• Collect data for the monthly snapshot and flash reports,
• Support the RSA in coordinating with the media team in DSS NY.
• Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
• Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
