FAO has been working in Lebanon since 1977. FAO Lebanon project portfolio has been growing in response to the different crises. Projects mainly target farmers, fishers, and their organisations with the aim of building their resilience and capacity to access potential markets, while undertaking sustainable management of resources.

FAO’s assistance has focused on sustainable transformation of agrifood systems in close collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, other government partners and non-state actors, as well as development and international partners. Since 2015, FAO has been supporting the coordination and planning mechanism for humanitarian and stabilization assistance to Lebanon in the context of the Syria crisis. FAO is also contributing to restoring livelihoods and productive capacities of agrifood actors in response to Lebanon’s economic and financial crises.


Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative and direct supervision of the Resilience and Liaison Officer, in consultation with the AFAOR Programme and relevant units in RNE and HQ.


Technical Focus

Natural Resources Management – Irrigation.


Tasks and responsibilities

• Develop, implement, evaluate assigned programmes/projects and provide technical guidance in the area of irrigation and water management;
• Study technologies and practices piloted and promoted by the programmes/projects and identify their requirements, merits, and advantages.
• Conduct field assessments to ensure the performance of the introduced technologies and propose areas of improvements.
• Update the irrigation water requirement and irrigation scheduling program for different cropping system.
• Collect, analyze and document data and information relating to performance of innovation irrigation systems implemented for demonstration and asses it’s impact for different types of water sources and farming system.
• Develop knowledge products related to the innovative irrigation systems for the programmes/projects assigned.
• Develop training materials and conduct training sessions for farmers and the project partners on irrigation and water management practices.
• Develop recommendations on different options and innovations, technologies, rehabilitation and development measures to enhance the natural springs and traditional irrigation systems.
• Prepare technical specifications and/or BoQs related to irrigation equipment and/or infrastructure and follow up tendering processes from a technical perspective.
• Liaise with the Lead technical officer (LTO) and HQ technical officers to obtain technical inputs and clearances.
• Support policy advocacy on water management and regulating water supply.
• Coordinate with the relevant authorities\: MoA, MoEW, Water establishments.
• Perform any other related duties.


CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• University Degree in irrigation and Water Engineering, Agriculture Water Management, Agriculture Rural Engineering, Environmental Engineering or other related engineering field.
• 6 years of relevant experience in implementing irrigation projects at national level.
• Working knowledge (full proficiency – level C) of English and intermediate knowledge (intermediate proficiency – level B) of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish).;
• National of Lebanon.
