The IRC’s External Relations team comprises colleagues and teams delivering marketing, fundraising, brand stewardship and communications to support this work. As part of External Relations, the Mass Markets USA (MMUSA) program is responsible for raising $70+ million in unrestricted revenue annually in the U.S. market and plays a meaningful strategic role in the creation of the IRC’s brand, awareness, and support for its advocacy goals.

As part of External Relations, the Mass Markets USA (MMUSA) program is responsible for raising $70+ million in unrestricted revenue annually in the U.S. market and plays a meaningful strategic role in the creation of the IRC’s brand, awareness, and support for its advocacy goals.
Job Overview:
The Director, Integrated Fundraising and Marketing, leads, executes, and oversees major unrestricted fundraising campaigns designed to acquire, retain, and steward mass market donors. This position integrates audiences and channels to deliver campaigns designed to raise in excess of $70 million in unrestricted revenue for the organization annually. This role also manages two key audiences – donor-advocates and RAI donors – and is responsible for email strategy and retention-focused supporter journeys across all mass market audiences. The position reports to the Senior Director, USA Mass Market Revenue, and plays a key role on the MMUSA Leadership Team, comprised of all director-level leaders.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership:
• Lead and inspire a team of fundraisers by cultivating a collaborative, results-oriented culture that empowers each member to reach their full potential, with a strong emphasis on innovation, equity, and inclusion.
• Operationalize fundraising objectives and provide mentorship to support the professional growth and success of direct reports.
• Serve on the MMUSA Leadership Team and guide decision-making designed to boost MMUSA team performance and meet revenue goals.
Departmental Strategy and Planning:
• Lead the development of campaigns across high value MMUSA donor audiences (mid-level donors, bridge donors, sustainers, and planned giving prospects), standard audiences, and acquisition, to meet an annual revenue budget in excess of $70 million.
• Implement a unified campaign and content strategy across audiences and teams to maximize fundraising outcomes and donor retention.
• Partner with channel leads and audience leads to manage campaigns across audiences and channels, to include integrated campaign planning, creative development, creative procurement, and related tasks.
• Lead MMUSA emergency fundraising during major crisis moments and serve as External Relations Emergency Action Group lead for MMUSA, ensuring the success of emergency fundraising efforts while adhering to organizational fundraising guidelines and ethics.
• Lead supporter journey strategy to create a best-in-class donor experience, all to inspire more giving.
Audience Strategy:
• Lead the organization’s digital advocacy strategy, in partnership with Advocacy and Influence, using these campaigns to strengthen supporter engagement, raise awareness, and transform advocates into donors.
• Lead the mass marketing program as part of External Relations' $3 million annual budget by partnering closely with IRC’s network of 29 U.S. offices to engage and retain locally acquired donors.
• Strategically connect the IRC’s domestic and international programs to inspire meaningful contributions that advance the IRC’s U.S. and global mission.
Content and Creative
• Partner with creative/brand and communications teams to develop compelling creative that not only highlights the dignity and resilience of IRC clients, but also inspires donors to give.
• Partner with the analytics team to evaluate content and campaign performance and to ensure reports and dashboards reflect the nuances, goals, and complexities of campaigns.
• Ensure external partners are integrated into campaign strategies and that their contributions enhance the overall effectiveness and cohesion of fundraising efforts.
• Drive innovation within the team, especially related to content and campaigns, exploring areas such as AI and new and emerging channels and technologies.
• Be an IRC brand ambassador, ensuring MMUSA audience and channel copy is on-brand, effective, and highlights the dignity and resilience of the people we serve.
Compliance and Ethics:
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and ethical standards governing fundraising activities.
• Mitigate reputational, brand, and legal risks to protect and uphold the IRC's integrity and mission.
• Uphold the highest level of integrity and transparency in all interactions with donors and stakeholders, fostering the “IRC Way” in all interactions.
Job Requirements
Education:
• Bachelor’s Degree required (fundraising, marketing, communications, or liberal arts background preferred)
Work Experience:
• At least 12 years of nonprofit mass marketing fundraising experience in progressively more advanced roles, including at least seven years' experience in a role related to developing marketing content or fundraising campaigns
• Demonstrated experience in leading teams and agencies in the effective delivery of marketing campaigns
• At least five years of experience managing staff, with a focus on team building and talent development
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
•Experience leading and encouraging teams to execute fundraising campaigns and exceed ambitious fundraising targets
•Experience in crafting vision, strategy, and plans in partnership with leadership, colleagues, and external partners
•Experience working successfully in an environment that can be fast paced, especially during period of the time when the organization is responding to fast-moving humanitarian crises
•Creative problem-solving skills and ability to navigate complexity, ambiguity and sensitive topics to get to the heart of and cultivate moving and conversion-inspiring stories
•Outstanding writing skills and proven ability to produce content that sways hearts and minds and encourages people to support IRC’s work
•Ability to craft materials and content that focus on cultivation and retention, demonstrating the impact of a donor’s generosity
•Demonstrated CRM experience; Salesforce experience preferred
•Extensive knowledge of key mass marketing tools and programs including email marketing, SMS, direct mail, face-to-face and digital advertising
•A passion for marketing, as well as IRC’s cause, and seeks to help transform the lives of people affected by humanitarian crises
Compensation:
Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
