The Scope
Colombia is a growing country in forest management certification opportunities. The scope of the Forest Management Coordinator for FSC Colombia is to map, create, develop, and execute the operational plan to increase of FSC certified hectares in the country. This person will be handling key relations with current and potential new Forest Management certificate holders in order to understand the current needs of forest managers in the country regarding the FSC certification. Additionally, the Forest Management Coordinator will support new and current certificate holders though the implementation of national standards and the strengthening of a FSC certified supply chain with its roots on the increase on the supply of certified forests products.
Main Roles & Responsibilities
  • To keep updated pipeline of priority forest opportunities (natural forests and plantations) at the national level. 
  • To update and develop action plans to gain new forest management opportunities based on the agreed target list. 
  • To increase the number of Forest Management certified companies. 
  • Provide technical support for the implementation of the Forest Stewardship Standard (FSS) in Colombia. 
  • Provide technical support to current Forest Management certification processes with Small or Low Intensity Managed Forest (SLIFM) and Non-SLIFM initiatives.  
  • To develop a portfolio of resources (information, documents, guides, factsheets, audio-visual, and virtual media) to allow FSC understanding in the country. 
  • Additional tasks as agreed with the National Representative for FSC in Colombia. 
Your profile
  • Education and Training
    • University degree in Forest Engineering, Environmental Engineering or equivalent in a relevant field such as forest management, agroforestry, agronomy and environmental sciences.   
    • Any other trainings on forest management or certification schemes are a plus.
 
  • Working Experience, Style and Skills: 
  • 1 to 3 years of professional experience, with at least 1 year of experience in Forest management, forest management certification, forest data management, sustainability certifications and forestry. 
  • Good time management skills: Ability to perform well while handling simultaneously number of clients.  
  • Experience with capacity building and development of workshops for stakeholders in the environmental sector. 
 
  •  Language & Communication Skills: 
  • Fluency in Spanish (spoken and written).
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written). 
 
  • Communication Skills:
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills 
  • Active-listening skills. 
  • Experience in conducting workshops for relevant stakeholders.
 
  • Others:
  • Ability to represent FSC through his/her work with exemplary personal and professional authority and conduct.  
  • High speed internet connection.  
  • Proficient with Excel.  
  • Commitment to FSC’s mission and values.  
  • Familiarity at the general level with the scope of FSC’s programs.  
  • Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity to the diversity of values, views and approaches to issues relevant to the FSC program by stakeholders around the world.

The Fine Print
  • Location: Colombia.
  • Working Hours: Full time. 
  • Duration of Engagement: 2 years.
  • Type of contract: Free lance (Service and License agreement). 
  • Starting Date: As soon as possible.
  • Travel: Sporadic travel is required.
