Organizational Setting

FAO's office for Iraq is responsible for developing, promoting, overseeing and implementing agreed strategies for addressing countrywide food, agriculture and rural development. It develops and maintains relations with the relevant government entities and Ministries at country level.


Reporting Lines

Under the overall guidance of the FAO Representative (FAOR), and under the supervision of the FAO Water & Agriculture Technical Advisor, the National Irrigation and Water Infrastructure engineer will perform the tasks indicated below\:


Technical Focus

Support in Irrigation and rural infrastructure related activities including market assessment, design, implementation, and capacity building


Tasks and responsibilities

Irrigation and Rural Infrastructure Implementation\:

• Draft technical specifications and layouts for irrigation systems adapted to the specific needs of the cropping patterns supported by FAO Iraq projects. Important factors for the design such us daily and/or monthly crop/irrigation water requirements, optimal spacing between crops, driplines or sprinklers should be coordinated with the relevant technical specialists.
• Oversee the installation and commissioning of irrigation and other rural infrastructure at project sites.
• Support inspections efforts to ensure equipment compliance with the technical specification, FAO standards and donor requirements as relevant.

Capacity Building and Training\:

• Contribute to Organizing training sessions for farmers and stakeholders on irrigation systems’ Operation and Maintenance best practices to ensure water efficiency and sustainability.
• Contribute to developing training materials and technical manuals to support knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement\:

• Serve as a liaison with government entities, local authorities, and project stakeholders.
• Participate in technical meetings and field assessments.

Monitoring and Reporting\:

• Track project progress and provide regular reports on irrigation activities.
• Document lessons learned and proposed improvements for future projects.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING


Minimum Requirements

• University degree in Irrigation, Water resources, Agriculture, or any other related field
• At least two years of relevant experience in Irrigation and Rural Infrastructure Implementation
• Working knowledge of English and Arabic
• Iraqi National
