The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Ghana works across the 16 regions and focuses its development interventions in three interconnected areas: environment and climate change, inclusive development, and governance and peacebuilding. One of its key project’s under the Environment and Climate Unit is the Environmentally Sustainable Production Practices in cocoa Landscapes, Phase IV (ESP IV), which currently operates in 2 regions, the Ahafo and Western regions.
This phase of the project is working to contribute to the conservation and restoration of forest cover in degraded forest reserves. The project objective will be achieve by two interlinked outputs that will scale up innovative models of forest restoration that simultaneously involve and benefit neighboring cocoa communities, strengthen institutional capacity for forest management and conservation, and produce significant synergies with the rest of the Cocoa Life program.
The ESP IV project is seeking to recruit a qualified and reliable driver to support its transportation needs. The driver will be the official driver for all the project vehicles under the project and will provide reliable and safe driving services to the project team and related experts, ensuring the highest standards of direction, integrity, a sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol, and security issues. The driver will demonstrate a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact, and the ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds.
Scope of Work
- Safely drive ESP IV project vehicles for the transport of authorized passengers whenever required.
- Meeting and conveying official personnel from UNDP CO and visitors to project sites following all customs formalities and arrangements when required.
- Local traffic rules and regulations are strictly observed.
- Works with the ESP IV Project Coordinator to provide relevant transport services for effective implementation of the project at all times.
- Ensures instructions and security guidance provided by the supervisor and security focal point are strictly followed by the him/her and any passengers during official work duty/journey.
b. Ensures cost-saving through the proper use of the vehicle by accurately maintaining daily vehicle logs, providing inputs to the preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
c. Ensures proper day-to-day proper maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tyres, brakes, car washing etc.
d. Ensures availability of all the required documents / supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city / country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle.
e. Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.
Institutional Arrangement
Under the overall direction of the Operations Analyst, the successful driver shall report primarily to the ESP IV Project Coordinator based in Goaso. The successful candidate will be based at the ESP IV project office at Goaso in the Asunafo North District of the Ahafo Region and will transport the project team to Accra and Wassa East occasionally as needed.

Education:
Min. Education requirements
- Completion of Secondary School Education
- Valid Ghanaian Driver’s license
- Minimum 2 years’ work experience as a driver in an international institution, non-governmental organization, governmental organization, embassy or UN system in Ghana.
- Additional work experience is considered as an asset
Required skills
- Knowledge of Ghana driving rules and regulations.
- Skilled and knowledgeable in minor vehicle repairs.
- Strong communication and customer service skills, as well as the ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Safe/Clean driving records with no major traffic violations or accidents.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation and electronic logging devices.
- Ability to conduct routine vehicle inspections and perform basis maintenance tasks, such as checking tire pressure and oil levels.
