About this position

The Legal Department is seeking a Legal Sr. Analyst who will work as a paralegal assisting an assigned group of attorneys in the Sovereign Guaranteed Operations Division of the Legal Department (LEG/SGO).    

The team’s mission: LEG/SGO provides legal advice throughout the loan programming and approval process, and on the formulation of policies and the development of new loan and guarantee products for the Bank's sovereign-guaranteed operations.  

What you’ll do

Analyze relevant information in project documents and assist with drafting, reviewing, and proofreading of legal documents such as loan contracts, technical cooperation agreements, investment grants, and resolutions related to sovereign and sovereign-guaranteed lending, as well as technical cooperation and investment grants. Prepare amendatory agreements for loan contracts and technical cooperation agreements.

Validate information on loan contracts, technical cooperation agreements, and investment grant agreements in the Bank’s loan management system.

Prepare notes to the Finance Department regarding compliance with national legislative ratification.

Conduct legal research and analyses on Bank policies and procedures, borrowing member countries’ legislation and regulations, and legal opinions.

Support attorneys in interpreting Bank policies and guidelines.

Register documents in the Bank's systems for official distribution and translation.

Lead the coordination of the signing of loan and guarantee contracts, as well as technical cooperation and investment grant agreements.

Review and proofread translations of legal documents into one or more of the Bank’s official languages for accuracy.

The services described above will be rendered primarily in connection with loan, technical cooperation, investment grant, and guarantee operations that are being formulated, negotiated, and processed for countries and entities within a group of countries to be determined at the time of hiring, or that are in execution in such countries, as well as in connection with regional operations.

What you'll need

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a field relevant to international development projects. Paralegal or pre-law studies are also desirable. 

Experience:  At least three years of experience as a paralegal, working with international development projects, or in other relevant roles.  Experience working with legal documentation is desirable. Excellent organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products (e.g., Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Languages: Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish. Basic knowledge of at least one other official Bank language (French or Portuguese) is a plus.
