About this position
We are looking for a detailed-oriented and analytical climate change communications professional to support the development of the IDB CLIMA communications plan. As a communications and outreach consultant, you will be responsible for supporting the improvement, visibility and level of communications’ impact of the IDB CLIMA’s actions in the Latin America and Caribbean region.
You will work for the Climate Change Solutions Division (“CSD/CCS”), which is part of the Climate Change and Sustainability Sector (“CSD”). This team is responsible for advising IDB management and developing policies, strategies, operational guidelines, and programs on issues relevant to the sector, as well as related areas. In addition, CSD carries out relevant sector research, analytical work, sector practices and case studies on climate change and sustainability. As a division of CSD, CSD/CCS provides support: (i) in the mainstreaming of climate change in the actions and operations of the IDB group and (ii) in the mainstreaming of climate change in the regional countries of the IDB group through support to the ministries of environment, planning, and economy and finance of the region. Both axes share the objective of strengthening climate policy at the subnational, national, and regional levels.
What you’ll do
Work with the Communications Senior Associate to conceptualizes the preparation, production and dissemination of IDB CLIMA communication products in various languages (e.g., blogs, op-eds, podcasts, brochures, Q&As, online and website and social media content, speeches, etc.).
Support the development of clear and compelling messages to effectively communicate on IDB CLIMA, biodiversity and climate-related activities and achievements for each audience.
Work with teams to update and maintain a current climate and biodiversity narrative and enriches a pool of messaging talking points – focused on IDB's sector and cross-sector expertise.
Support the generation of IDB CLIMA online content (website, blogs, social media, and publications) to engage target audiences.
Bolster the IDB’s presence at international conferences (including climate and biodiversity COPs), coordinating across multiple teams and engaging with various key stakeholders to deliver a rich agenda of high-level discussions that will showcase the IDB CLIMA’s work.
Support the development of IDB CLIMA knowledge management strategies including but not limited to capacity building programs, workshops, webinars, and virtual and onsite regional seminars.
Support the design of activities aimed at building key alliances and relationships and promote collaborative partnerships and communications with stakeholders as well as internal and external media partners, to advance key elements of the IDB CLIMA agenda and the accomplishment of agreed objectives.
Work with the Senior Communications Associate to design and deliver a communications strategy for engaging different stakeholders by employing appropriate media types.
Support teams to ensure application of policies and procedures regarding the publication of operational and non-operational documents in the IDB's external webpage.
Collaborate with all climate change and IDB CLIMA specialists in the division in the preparation and editing of communications products to ensure effectiveness and clarity of messages, delivery channels and brand consistency.
What you'll need
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and two years of relevant professional experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience: Minimum of two years of relevant professional experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience in communications, external affairs, or related fields, preferably in an international context.
- Languages: Fluency in English and Spanish is required. Fluency in one of the other two official languages (Portuguese and French) would be a plus.

Type of contract and duration
• Consultant:
- International consultant: International consultant Full-Time, 14 months (up to 36 months).
If international, Headquarters (Washington, D.C), whereas if national 100% remotely from place of residence of selected candidate and services are expected to be provided from a country where the IDB Group has offices.
