About this position

We are looking for a professional with recognized expertise, analytical capabilities, and highly motivated consultant to support projects to improve the production, use and dissemination of official statistics in LAC. As a consultant, you will be involved in various activities as described below.

You will work in the Data and Digital Government team (specifically with the Statistics Group) of Innovation in Citizen Services Division, part of the Institutions for Development Department. This team works focused on strengthening the statistical capacity of LAC countries, that is, their capacity to produce and disseminate quality data, in a sustained and timely manner, to promote evidence-based policy making.

What you’ll do

​​​​​​The consultant will perform, among others, the following main activities:

  • Support the design, execution, and management (technical, operational, and administrative) of projects around topics such: (i) as strengthening of the statistical capacity of National Statistical Offices (NSOs); (ii) supporting the production of official data (censuses, household surveys, administrative registers, etc.); and (iii) modernization of official data systems, data regulation, data openness, data dissemination, data visualization, etc.
  • Assist in the financial monitoring of technical cooperations and support such a: hiring, contracting, deliverables management, and payment processes of external consultants, consulting firms, external vendors, etc.
  • Maintain active and transparent dialogue and coordination with the contract supervisor, as well as with colleagues, consultants, consulting firms, vendors, and other internal and external partners to ensure the achievement of objectives and the smooth running of projects.
  • Write knowledge products (technical and research publications) and other dissemination/communications pieces (blogs, social media posts, press releases, etc.), for consumption by both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provide planning support for in-person events and webinars.
  • Assist in the design of online training courses.
  • Work on strengthening the institutional dialogue with government counterparts (NSOs and other official data producers) and other internal (within and outside IFD/ICS) and external partners, to identify opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Support the identification and curation of innovative global data initiatives, partnerships, and best practices around official statistics and data production/data systems.

What you'll need

  • Education: Master’s degree in public policy, International Development, Economics, Public Administration, Data Science, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in the preparation, implementation and evaluation of projects related to data production, analysis, dissemination and/or visualization. Knowledge of traditional data sources (census, household surveys, administrative registers) and new data sources (satellite imagery, social media data, crowdsourced data, etc.). Professional experience working in the public sector and/or in projects carried out by an International Development Agency/Bank is desirable.
  • Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Requirements

Type of contract and duration

  • Type of contract: International consultant
  • Length of contract: 12 months, up to 36 months
  • Work Location: If international, Headquarters (Washington, D.C), whereas if national 100% remotely from place of residence of selected candidate and services are expected to be provided from a country where the IDB Group has offices.
