OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

Under the overall authority of the UNESCO Assistant-Director General for Education, the overall supervision of the Director of UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (UNESCO IITE), the direct supervision of the Chief of the Unit of ICT in Health Education of the UNESCO IITE, and the guidance provided by the Section of Health and Education at UNESCO Headquarters, the incumbent will be responsible for providing strategic and technical support for research, planning, development and implementation, monitoring and reporting of programmes and projects aiming to advance comprehensive education for health and well-being, including education provided in digital space, powered by ICT and generative artificial intelligence.

Long Description

More specifically, the incumbent will carry out the following tasks and responsibilities:

 

Programme and technical support
•    Identify opportunities for UNESCO’s engagement in policy development and programming on comprehensive education for health and well-being, prevention of HIV, violence/bullying and cyberbullying including in digital space within the framework of the UNESCO Strategy on Health and Well-being, UNESCO IITE Strategy, national strategies, and the UNAIDS division of labour.
•    Facilitate the process of strategic planning, programme and project development with UNESCO engagement in these opportunities. 
•    Support the timely implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting on relevant projects mostly in the countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. 
•    Contribute to advocacy efforts at regional and country levels in order to advance the use of evidence and best practices on comprehensive education for health and well-being including in digital space through UNESCO normative and operational resources and new data generated by research and/or pilot activities. 

 

Leveraging digital solutions for educators’ capacity building 
•    Support and guide the development and promotion of novel digital tools and learning platforms for young people, capacity building of educators and other specialists to advance formal and non-formal education for health and well-being. 
•    Coordinate and contribute to the preparation of the content and promotional strategies for these tools and platforms, engage with relevant experts, support communities
of practice. 

Knowledge generation and transfer
•    Plan, commission and supervise research on priority themes to inform policy advocacy and programming work on comprehensive education for health and well-being and violence/bullying and cyberbullying prevention including in digital space and ethical and effective use of generative artificial intelligence for these purposes. 
•    Collaborate on and contribute to the co-development and publication of new joint resources and research in key thematic areas.
•    Facilitate knowledge transfer and learning exchange among policy and programme practitioners, experts and partners.

 

Representation and partner relations
•    Build and maintain strategic partnerships with a range of external partners on key thematic issues, and internal collaboration within and across UNESCO divisions and sectors.
•    Represent UNESCO in appropriate coordination forums and thematic meetings with UN agencies and other partners.
•    Engage with local and regional organisations, including civil society and especially those led by or serving youth and working in digital space.

 

Working meetings and experience sharing forums
•    Coordinate the preparation of UNESCO thematic in-person and online forums, working meetings, conferences, seminars, workshops, and those implemented in collaboration with partners. Contribute to the preparation, translation and dissemination of background documents. 
•    Lead and support the preparation of briefings, news articles, presentations, document summaries, publications and contribute to other tasks and duties as assigned by the Director of IITE and/or Chief of Unit.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

•    Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in education, social sciences, public health or related field.


Work Experience

•    At least 4 (four) years of relevant experience in a professional setting supporting programme implementation in the field of education for health and well-being, prevention of  HIV, violence, bullying and cyberbullying among adolescents and young people, of which preferably at least 1 (one) year should be in the region of Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
•    Experience in digital tools, platforms and other digital solutions for health and well-being education.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Work Experience

•    Previous experience at UNESCO, in the United Nations System or other international organizations.


Skills & Competencies

•    Creativity and openness to exploring new approaches to leveraging information and communication technology and artificial intelligence for health and well-being education.
•    Advanced skills in digital tools and platforms for health education. 
•    Advanced knowledge of office software and knowledge of database and analytical tools software.
•    Ability to develop, design and promote compelling knowledge and advocacy products including via the Internet and social media.


Languages

•    Good knowledge of French or another official language of UNESCO       

BENEFITS AND ENTITLEMENTS

UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc.

The approximate annual starting salary for this post is 5,272,010 Russian Rubles.
